Since its opening in 2018, Goodnow's own Makerspace – the Sara Sherman NOW Lab – has quickly evolved into a hub for creativity and community. It goes without saying that we are sad that it, like the rest of the Library, remains temporarily closed, but we are so touched by a thoughtful donation from a couple that recognizes its benefit to our patrons. Thank you to AnneMarie and Elliot Lent as well as to all of the GLF's donors for your continued support during this unusual summer.

The dog days of summer will be winding down soon, and there are daily reminders that this has been a summer like no other. While a lot of Sudbury has come to life again with stores and restaurants re-opened, Goodnow remains closed to the public. But behind the scenes, the awesome Library staff has never worked harder to ensure that you, the patrons, still have access to all that Goodnow has to offer. They have been there daily working through the kinks of Goodnow's contactless pickups and generating creative virtual offerings. They are probably more eager than anyone for Goodnow's doors to re-open!
As we move toward the fall, the GLF looks forward to two virtual events that are highlighted below: the unveiling of "The Tree of Inspiration," sculpted and donated by Janice Corkin Rudolf; and our evening gala fundraiser, Books & Brews.
In addition, we'll be continuing with a monthly newsletter and we are starting to meet (virtually) with our 2020-2021 high school interns – our "Goodnow Developers" – who have some projects up their sleeves for the fall!
In July's "News from the GLF" we started introducing community members who support the GLF in different ways. This month we are highlighting Amy Wilson Sheldon, an active member of the Sudbury community who, with her husband Matt, has two teenagers who attend Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. Amy has worn many hats in her involvement with the GLF, beginning when she generously donated her time and communications expertise to help start up our successful Be Bold events.
Thank you for keeping up with us and learning more about the GLF! We appreciate your support. Stay safe and healthy and enjoy the last few weeks of August.
#StillWorkingFromHome,
Holly

A native of the Seattle area, Amy and her family moved to Sudbury five years ago from Dublin, following stints in Charlotte and NYC. Amy currently works as a communications consultant to nonprofits and a producer of community literary events. Amy has fond memories of every public library she's ever called her "home library" – they've provided her the summer reading programs of her childhood, a quiet nook to work on college applications or graduate work, and a happy place to take her own children.
How do you use Goodnow? We're avid users of the Library's resources and materials – I just had my first (seamless!) contactless pickup and we started using the Kanopy streaming service a few months ago. Because I'm self-employed, Goodnow has also provided a quiet and inspiring place to work when I've needed to get out of the house. (Can't wait to get back to my favorite spot on the 2nd floor once the Library is physically open again!)
You're an avid reader and writer; you have a blog and social media accounts related to "reading culture" and have recently incorporated a nonprofit. What motivates you? About six years ago, I started a blog about books, totally on a whim. That original blog – A Lifely Read – now serves as an umbrella for my communications work, literary events I produce, and my own published writing. I suppose my personal catchphrase is "Reading is Relevant": Reading is how we learn; it's a way to connect to ideas, cultures, and places different than our own; it's a method for keeping our minds sharp; and although it's often a solitary act, reading can actually be a great way to build community. That last bit serves as the impetus for the MetroWest Readers Fest, which was incorporated as a 501c3 immediately before the pandemic. (Needless to say, all plans are completely on hold, but I'm delighted to have three wonderful Sudbury-based board members to help me – eventually – usher it into existence.)
How is the Library "community" for you? Anyone can go to the Library! Public libraries are special because of their barrier-free access points. Go in at different points of the day/week and you'll see that Goodnow serves a wide array of people. That's community.

{Thank you to the amazing staff who can make even contactless pickup memorable! Have you see their Shark Week-inspired video to help patrons visualize what contactless pickup looks like? They're totally right:
Libraries are Jawsome.}
