Time to schedule the coming year’s programs for breakfast clubs, civic organizations, professional groups, etc.! I’d like to suggest two topics that will resonate with every person in the room.
Very soon, more than one in five Iowans will be seniors and over a million Iowa adults struggle with two or more chronic conditions. Meanwhile, our youth and working age populations are shrinking.
As well as threatening access to every aspect of health care from preventive medicine to end of life, these unprecedented labor trends directly impact Iowa’s economic stability. The quality and quantity of our lives will soon depend on finding the means to survive and thrive in spite of these challenges.
“Where will you be when the music stops?”
[45-minute keynote presentation]
We are witnessing a health care system pushed to the brink by worker shortages. Being an informed and health literate decision maker has always been essential to achieving best outcomes, but going forward we will face threats to our health and well-being like never before.
What are the underlying forces that now jeopardize patient access and endanger Iowa’s economic viability? And how can we overcome these challenges as patients, business owners and communities?
Discover the startling truths about Iowa’s demographics, dwindling health care resources and the failure to prepare for the inevitable. And learn there are actionable strategies available for accessing timely care and preserving patient rights for every Iowan.
Whether a consumer, advocate for a loved one, entrepreneur or community leader, awareness of Iowa’s seismic demographic shifts is the first step in preparing for these life-altering challenges. Oh, by the way, that approaching perfect storm? It's here.
“Shining a light on hospice”
[45-minute keynote presentation]
More than 25 years ago, learning about hospice care was the first step in my journey of advocating for health care access and patient rights, and it has always held a special place in my heart. I am long overdue to again speak on the role of hospice and the critical importance of supporting its philosophy, places and people.
Whether you are hoping to encourage volunteering, foster giving or simply raise awareness, my stories about how hospice came to be and the threats to its unique place in a health care journey will set the stage.
Are the members of your organization prepared for the perfect storm of demographics, resources and systemic fails now on the horizon? If not, contact Jo and discuss whether one of her presentations would be a good fit. JoKline@msn.com
