Two new "Why I" videos, Annual Meeting recap, and more in this week's digest!

Happy Halloween and welcome to the latest HERE FOR GOOD Digest, a weekly newsletter from United Way of the Greater Capital Region (UWGCR). This week we're focusing on our network of Family Neighborhood Resource Centers (FNRC), which care for and nurture the wellbeing of communities across the Greater Capital Region.

Taking a "whole family approach," FNRCs are structured to be more efficient by housing an array of services and agencies in one location. By supporting parents, caregivers, and children alike, FNRCs help cut down on transportation challenges and play a key role in fighting childhood poverty. In the past year alone, our network of FNRCs connected with nearly 11,000 families across the Capital Region.

Over the course of 2023 and 2024, UWGCR is committing $428,950 to this growing network, bringing our investment to more than $3 million over the past decade. Earlier this year, we were proud to welcome Columbia Opportunities and Community Action of Greene County as new FNRC partners.

UWGCR's FNRC Partners

Last Wednesday morning, we officially kicked off this year's HERE FOR GOOD campaign during our 2023 Annual Meeting at Carpenters Local 291's Albany Training Center. In addition to hearing our President and CEO Peter Gannon's State of United Way, we welcomed new members to our board of directors and paid tribute to CDTA CEO Carm Basile, whose four-year tenure as board chair wrapped up last week. All of us at UWGCR are grateful for Carm's leadership and service over the past

four years and are grateful that he'll continue to serve on our board. You can watch our tribute video to Carm here. At the same time, we're all thrilled to get to work with our new chair, Brian Sano from National Grid! We know we'll continue to accomplish great things together and make a lasting impact in the Capital Region.

During Wednesday's meeting we were also inspired by a moving presentation from the SEAT Center's Kurticiah Thompson and Rebecca Paavola, who detailed the organization's work to connect underrepresented young adults to meaningful work and prepare them for employment in high-demand industries. Thank you, Rebecca and Kurticiah, for being great partners of United Way!

GE VOLUNTEERS PITCH IN AT THE PATROON LAND FARM

Thank you to our partners at GE Vernova, who spent last Thursday afternoon doing a little fall cleanup at the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York's Patroon Land Farm. You can check out our "Why I Give" spotlight on GE here.

AND THEY'RE OFF AT THE 'BOBRICK SPEEDWAY!'

To get their team revved up for this year's campaign, Bobrick hosted a special competition at the company's Clifton Park offices last week. Any employee who increased their bi-weekly contribution to UWGCR got the chance to test their skills 'behind the wheel' of Bobrick's remote control car speedway in the parking lot.

The fastest finishers took home some exciting prizes. We're grateful for everyone at Bobrick for their continued support of UWGCR's work in the community. Thank you to campaign chairs Dan Filippone and Krissann Gadoury for hosting us for a fun afternoon! We're looking forward to the official campaign kick-off later this week!
