Partner with a STEM Learning Ecosystem Near You

STEM Ecosystems Foster Community Engagement for a Strong Future – Partner with a STEM Learning Ecosystem Near You!

By Stephanie García, Ph.D., IDRA

A learning ecosystem harnesses unique collaborations in symbiosis to deliver equitable STEM learning for all children. A STEM Learning Ecosystem encompasses schools; community settings, such as after-school and summer programs, science centers and museums; and informal experiences at home and in a variety of environments that together constitute a rich array of learning opportunities for young people. There are designated STEM Learning Ecosystems across the world, with a large presence here in the United States. Texas has three STEM Learning Ecosystem designations.

How to Help Kids Overcome Their Fear of Math According to a Brain Scientist

"EdSurge caught up with cognitive scientist Sian Beilock, author of books “Choke” and “How the Body Knows Its Mind,” to talk about how anxiety can impact students’ math performance—and how adults can help them. Beilock is also the president of Barnard College, and the president-elect of Dartmouth College. Her most recent study looks at how math anxiety influences how high school students choose to study (or not), resulting in a self-fulfilling prophecy of poor performance." (Tamez-Robledo, 2022)

Science Communication Fellowship 2023

Ocean Exploration Trust (OET) is now seeking students and educators to participate in deep ocean expeditions as part of the 2023 E/V Nautilus Expedition in the Central Pacific! SURVEY: National Science Foundation Award: Advancing the Conversation on Scaling National Informal STEM Programs

National Girls Collaborative Project needs your help identifying national informal STEM curricula and programs! The National Girls Collaborative Project (NGCP) and Education Development Center (EDC) have recently been awarded a National Science Foundation grant Advancing the Conversations on Scaling National Informal STEM Programs (Award #2214449). This grant aims to examine what scaling informal STEM curricula and programs looks like across diverse settings in an effort to collaboratively articulate success factors, challenges and other issues that are part of growing and scaling. Please help us identify programs and people to include in the conversation by completing this brief survey by December 5, 2022.  We are looking for a large diversity of responses, so feel free to forward this to others in your network.
