NOMINATION DEADLINE OCTOBER 9: Texas Stand Up for STEM Awards

TxGCP annually awards the Stand Up for STEM Awards to recognize and elevate the work of incredible mentors, companies and organizations within Texas. Award nominations are open now and close on Monday, October 9, at 12:00 p.m. noon Central Time. Awardees and nominees are recognized during the TxGCP Texas Women and Girls in STEM Summit. Self-nominations welcome.

  • Stand Up for STEM Mentor Award for a STEM Professional engaged in mentoring women and/or girls in STEM
  • Stand Up for STEM Educator Award for a STEM Educator engaged in mentoring women and/or girls in STEM
  • Stand Up for STEM Collegiate Award for a STEM College Student or Student Group/Organization engaged in mentoring women and/or girls in STEM
  • Stand Up for STEM High School Award for a STEM High School Student or Student Group/Organization engaged in mentoring women and/or girls in STEM

SESSION PROPOSAL DEADLINE OCTOBER 12: Upcoming Virtual Summit

The 7th Annual Texas Women and Girls in STEM Summit hosted virtually on Friday, December 1st is designed to share effective practices, connect organizations and individuals, and showcase outstanding efforts to increase the number of girls in STEM and support the retention of women in STEM careers.  STEM professionals and all who are engaged in education, outreach, recruitment, and/or retention of women and girls in STEM are invited to join in. Submit a presentation, workshop or panel proposal by October 12th.

Thanks to a generous grant from STEM Next and a fabulous partnership with Texas Partnership for Out of School Time, TxGCP is bringing the Million Girls Moonshot - SciGirls, STEM Role Models & Messaging Workshop for Educators and Advocates to several locations and conferences across Texas!

NGCP Youth Advisory Board Application Deadline Extended to October 14

The application deadline to join the NGCP Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for the 2023-2024 school year has been extended until October 14, 2023. The YAB is a collective of high school students from diverse regions and backgrounds who have a passion for STEM. The YAB's mission is to provide input on current NGCP initiatives and inform the future direction of NGCP. JOIN US! Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering, or TAME, is inviting educators to lead TAME Clubs for middle- and high-school students! TAME provides the FREE curriculum, structure, and toolkit of materials to make it easy for educators to lead an engaging and enriching afterschool program. Beginning in the summer of 1990, the NASA's Texas Space Grant Consortium initiated a week-long professional development training for teachers. This aerospace workshop, called LiftOff, emphasizes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning experiences by incorporating a space science theme supported by NASA missions. Teacher participants are provided with information and experiences through speakers, hands-on activities and field investigations that promote space science and enrichment activities for themselves and others. The deadline for receiving applications is December 23, 2023, for LiftOff 2024 and should be submitted through the online system: https://www.csr.utexas.edu/liftoff/


The USA Science & Engineering Festival (USASEF) recently released a brand new Lesson Plan Library full of NGSS and CASEL aligned lesson plans for middle and high school students. The library can be narrowed by grade level, STEM field, core idea, and more so educators can quickly find quality plans created by educators, for educators. Whether it’s learning about the sun’s lifespan or using computer science models, the USASEF Lesson Plan Library has something for everyone! World Space Week occurs annually October 4-10. Those days were chosen to commemorate the dates of two big events: 

  1. the launch of Sputnik 1, the first human-made satellite, and
  2. the establishment of the 1967 Outer Space Treaty solidifying the peaceful use of outer space.

The week is “an international celebration of science and technology, and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition.” Events take place in over 90 countries. This year’s theme is “Space and Entrepreneurship.” Learn more and find events at WorldSpaceWeek.org. National Citizen and Community Science Library Network

Calling all library partners! The National Citizen and Community Science Library Network is a collaboration between NGCP, SciStarter, and Arizona State University to support libraries in transforming into vibrant community hubs for citizen science. You are invited to join this expanding network of libraries actively engaging their local communities in meaningful science. Network members receive free resources, unique professional development opportunities, and technical support. Together, we are creating a supportive and inclusive environment where science becomes accessible to everyone.
