Texas State Board of
Dental Examiners Announces the Creation of an Expert Panel

The creation of an expert panel of dentists and dental hygienists to more efficiently handle certain complaints was announced at the August 2, 2013 meeting of the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.  This panel was mandated by the recently-passed House Bill 3201 and will give the Board the resources to add staff and streamline standard of care complaint resolution.  In addition, a new dental director will be hired to oversee the expert panel.

The new law creates a $55 surcharge, added to the fees a dentist pays when obtaining or renewing a license, and a dentist will be required to provide information such as whether the licensee is a Medicaid provider and whether the licensee is affiliated with a dental service organization.

The State Board is currently soliciting nominations from professional associations and organizations for dentists and dental hygienists   to serve on this panel.  Please see below for additional details and the application forms that must be completed and submitted to the SBDE. The final appointments to the panel will be made at the November 8, 2013 meeting of the State Board.
