Important Updates:

The Texas Oral Health Coalition's Board Governance Committee is pleased to share the Nominations Report 2014-2015.

We are excited to share that Representative Cortez has agreed to sponsor a bill in support of our resolution.

Legislative Proposal

On September 30, 2014, the TxOHC Board of Directors submitted a resolution and legislative proposal to Health Committee members in the Texas House and Senate requesting their support and sponsorship to draft a bill requiring the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to appoint an Oral Health Advisory Committee.

It will take the effort of many experts to collaborate and address all of the system-level, individual-level, and provider-level aspects that are involved to investigate amending the government Medicaid code to provide oral health care services through Medicaid for adult Texans.  This committee would also collaborate to recommend viable strategies for the delivery and maintenance of dental care for our most vulnerable adults and ensure the integration of oral health in state health policies.

We hope you appreciate our effort to stay neutral on workforce issues while taking the necessary steps to begin this crucial process.

This letter with the attached resolution and legislative proposal was sent to various entities asking for their support as well.  Please share this information with your friends and colleagues and help us raise awareness in this call to action.

"A test of a people is how it behaves toward the old.  It is easy to love children.  Even tyrants and dictators make a point of being fond of children.  But the affection and care for the old, the incurable, the helpless are the true gold mines of a culture."

Abraham J. Heschel
