Tyndale turns 95 in June!
|
Since 1927, Tyndale St-Georges’ MISSION is to empower, to help develop and to be a presence to the community of Little Burgundy by offering programs designed to promote self-reliance, mutual aid and fulfillment. Through educational, social, recreational and employment programs, Tyndale provides individuals and families with tools, opportunities and support.
At Tyndale, our VISION is for a community where there are opportunities for growth and involvement, access to information and resources. Everyone's potential is recognized and achieved. Diversity is celebrated, and people feel respected and supported.

Iva is one of Tyndale's gems! From receptionist to Interim Volunteer Director, she's done it all!
Born and raised in Montreal, Iva first joined Tyndale St-Georges in 2001 on a wage subsidy as administrator in the Children, Youth and Families Department. Once the subsidy came to an end, she was offered the office administrator position at 870 Richmond Square, a position she held until 2012. She then moved to the Adult Centre on des Seigneurs Street where she filled the same role for 8 years.

In 2020, Iva became Programs Coordinator at the Adult Centre, running the Seniors Wellness Centre 5 days a week, as well as giving computer lessons to our Pre-Employability Program participants. In her role as Programs Coordinator, she helps seniors stay active, motivated and informed. In 2020, she helped them secure a garden lot in the community garden across the street. In the fall of 2021, they won an award for one of the best community gardens of the year!
Iva participates in various activities within the community which has allowed her to form relationships with both the residents and members over her many years working in the neighbourhood. She has organized Tyndale's Annual Community BBQ and entertained in the Little Burgundy Festival. She even volunteers at the Saint-Antoine 50+ Community Centre in her free time! Iva is happy to be able to combine her passion for singing and entertaining with helping others.
Pre-covid Iva always invited the Tyndale staff to her house for a BBQ. We hope to be able to continue the tradition this summer!

We have been busy since September with our many new initiatives!
As a response to Tyndale families’ needs for childcare programs on pedagogical days, the Children, Youth and Families (CYF) Department launched a PED Day program. From 9am until 6pm, animators provide services for up to 20 students. This includes a meal, a snack, as well as interactive and educational programming throughout the day. Students participate in arts, baking, drama, science and more. Activities vary from one PED day to the next so that our participants remain engaged and learn new skills.

In response to the increased need of some of our families who have children registered in Tyndale’s After School Program, the Children, Youth and Families Department is now providing additional specialized tutoring services. The Department is now able to offer families support that could not be provided within its regular After School Program hours. As a result of the high demand for this service, the Department has been offering some of its participants individualized attention on Sunday mornings as well.

Fly Fridays are back!
This program is designed to provide a space for teens from the community to stop by the Centre, free of charge, Fridays from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, to participate in different activities. Along with staff and volunteers, the teens can play basketball, cook, hang out with their friends in the library and access the computers in our lab.
One of the many benefits of this program is the access to positive role models and volunteers who can provide academic and emotional support if needed.

Our weekend program is a safe space for children 5 to 14 from the Little Burgundy Community to participate in different programs and activities. Our weekend coordinator provides a fun and interactive program from 10am until 4pm every weekend. For a small fee, children are able to participate in different activities such as cooperative games, sports, cooking and baking, drama as well as learning science, computer coding and more.

Tyndale staff will be holding two focus groups on Thursday, May 12 from 10am to 12pm and from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The goal of the focus groups is to discuss with members of the community what Tyndale represents to them, their place at the Community Centre, and where they see Tyndale in a few years from now. We are looking for people who have recently used our services as we would like to assess the services that we are currently providing and better understand the needs of the community in an effort to fill gaps that might exist.
These sessions will be held in person at the Centre.
If you would like to be part of a focus group, please RSVP in advance. Let us know if you will be joining the 10am or 6:30pm focus group and if you will require child care.
