The AP Seminar and AP Research students enrolled in the AP Capstone program are hard at work drafting their final research papers for submission to their College Board portfolios.
Seminar students are completing their Individual Written Arguments as part of their Performance Task 2 and are preparing for their multi-media presentations on self-selected topics. These past weeks they have formulated questions, researched, synthesized findings
and positioned them within varying perspectives, and constructed and defended arguments.
The AP Research students are in the final stages of a year-long process of conducting original Research in their chosen fields of study. Through laughter, tears, frustration, roadblocks, and more, these students have worked so hard and accomplished so much within circumstances that have been less than ideal.

|
From emergency medical supplies to therapeutic drug trial, from an analysis of DA appointments to diagnostic programming and a study of online engagement with racial justice, these Capstone Research students are engaging with the real world in critical acts of inquiry and original thought and producing and communicating new understandings with last implications beyond the classroom.
AP Capstone™ is a diploma program from the College Board. It’s based on two yearlong AP courses (Seminar and Research) which develop students’ skills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the two-year program can earn one of two different AP Capstone awards, which are valued by colleges across the United States and around the world. There is still time to add AP Seminar to your schedules next year! Reach out to your counselor or Ms. Lyons and Ms. Brockman for more information!

Engineering Design and Development Presentations
Seniors in the PVIT engineering program presented their Engineering Design and Development (EDD) projects last week to a panel of professional engineers. Four years of PVIT engineering courses (Introduction to Engineering Design, Digital Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, and Physics) culminated in presentations of inventions that students have been working on all year. Project ideas ranged from a lightweight tennis ball gathering device to a drywall hanging assistance tool to an after-market car theft video surveillance system to a music compression phone app. Students impressed the judges with their engineering designs and testing strategies, while demonstrating their prototypes via Zoom and in-person.
