Volume III Issue 9 ~ June 6th, 2021
1. Academics Spotlight
This week Mrs. Mindicino's Freshman Honors classes delivered their final presentations: Romeo and Juliet film adaptation. After watching two versions of Romeo and Juliet (Zeffirelli and Luhrman), students developed a proposal to present to "investors" in hopes of funding their film. Students developed the setting, costume design, casting, soundtrack, and brand partnerships to market their movies. They worked hard to come up with creative ideas and unique spins on the classic Shakespeare play!

Our first ever GLOWcoming was a huge success this past Friday night! Students were able to enjoy everything from rides, games, photo booth, food, and more! All of our Sea Kings enjoyed the event and just being able to see friends again after a long year of distance learning. Thank you ASB for planning such a great end of the year carnival!
4. Yearbook Spotlight
Yearbook distribution was a huge success this week as students got a first look at this year's edition of the yearbook "Surreal Life". Congratulations to all of our yearbook staff, editors, and advisors on a wonderful yearbook! If you did not purchase a yearbook and would like one, stop by the student store to purchase a copy while supplies last.

Congratulations to this year's advanced photo students Liz Campbell, Kate Moore, Maggie Puhl, Maya Sanacore, and Mikayla Smith on their photo show opening this week in Room 212 here on campus. Each student spent a yearlong study on a topic which they developed through the photographic image.

8. Student Spotlight
Kylie Mone was honored at the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council meeting this past week for her devotion to serving those in need. As a freshmen Kylie has been involved in many organizations at PVHS and in the community. She is a four time recipient of the Gold Presidential Service Award and is currently fundraising to support the Leukemia and Lymphona Society. Thank you Kylie for all of your amazing work!
9. Staff Spotlight
Ms. Palosaari grew up in Palos Verdes and graduated from Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. Growing up, she loved reading, ceramics, baking cookies, running with cross country, and camping with her family during the summer at the beautiful National Parks in the US! Fun Fact – she has been to 34 national parks out of the current 61 in the United States and plans on visiting them all! Ms. Palosaari went on to San Diego State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree is both Mathematics and English. Loving San Diego, she stayed to get her Teaching Credential at San Diego State University as well. Finally, she came back to the South Bay to begin her childhood dream of being a teacher, and went on to get her Master of Science Degree in Mathematics from Cal State Long Beach. During quarantine, she made a new cupcake every week, and found a new love for cooking recipes by her favorite food blogger, Half Baked Harvest!
