Volume II Issue 1 ~ September 1st, 2019
1. Academics Spotlight
This week every Sea King has started analyzing and delving deeper into our school wide summer reading, "Just Mercy" by Bryan Stevenson. With a focus on compassion, empathy, and respect, all of our Sea Kings are comparing and contrasting, annotating, evaluating quotes, and reflecting on the reading. The opportunity to have a common novel for all grades has continued to allow us to build a strong, positive school culture on campus.
2. Athletics Spotlight
Football started off the season with a 28-15 win versus Mission Hills and a 27-21 win against Moorpark. They play at home on Friday versus Corona del Mar.

Boys Water Polo beat Los Alamitos 12-7 and lost 11-16 to Santa Margarita.

Girls Volleyball beat South and currently is 5-5 for the season.

Girls Golf beat Marlborough 194-218.

Both boys and girls Cross Country teams had strong third place showings at their first home meet. Congrats to Savannah Scriven for winning the girls race.

3. Coronation Day Spotlight
This year PVHS began a new tradition where all students participated in a positive school culture symposium on the first day of school. Students were able to attend sessions taught by our staff that focused around the concepts of compassion, empathy, and respect towards our fellow Sea Kings. The day ended with a whole school assembly and BBQ where students and staff got to catch up with one another.

Thank you to all of our staff who helped to make this day a huge success for all of our Sea Kings.
4. Link Crew Spotlight
Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the Link Crew high school transition program provides the structure for freshmen to receive support and guidance from juniors and seniors who have been through the challenges that high school poses, and understand that the transition to a larger school can sometimes be overwhelming.

Over 90 new Link Leaders trained during the summer in preparation for the event.  As positive role models, Link Leaders are motivators, leaders and teachers who guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to high school and help facilitate freshman success.
Link Crew begins with a powerful orientation day that makes freshmen excited and proud to be attending their new high school and allows them to begin developing relationships and strategies that will contribute to their high school success.Link Crew welcomed the Class of 2023 and was the best orientation yet!
Freshmen invested the morning being introduced to PV High and life as a Sea King through a series activities.  After participating as a whole group, Link Leaders facilitated small group sessions in classrooms with the freshmen encouraging them to make connections.  The morning wrapped up with a themed campus tour and closing messages in the gym in which freshmen and Leaders committed to their future.
Link Crew would like to thank everyone who helped make Orientation a success!  They look forward to another great year of meaningful connections.

6. Colorguard Spotlight
The PVHS Color Guard is looking forward to another great year!    The team worked tirelessly during Band Camp in August to prepare for last week’s home football game and halftime show where they brought the music of Bohemian Rhapsody to life on the field.    You can catch the color guard on the sidelines at games and performing halftime with the Red Tide Regiment Marching Band during the fall.    They are hoping to compete again during the winter/spring indoor season.    If you’re interested in joining the program, they are always looking for new members, and it’s a great way to earn PE credit!    Please contact Ms. Klabe or Ms. Parkinson for more information.
