1. Academics Spotlight
This week environmental science students learned about the Endangered Species Act and then played a simulation game to understand threats that lead to population decline of their chosen plant or animal species. This hands on approach to learning is helping to prepare all of our students!
2. Athletics Spotlight
Football lost to Loyola in the first round of CIF playoffs. Congratulations to all of our players and coaches for a great season!

Boys Water Polo beat Murietta Valley 22-1 in the first round of CIF playoffs and beat Los Alamitos 11-9 in the quarterfinals. The boys move on to the semifinals on Wednesday.

The girl's tennis Bay League Individual Championships were last Friday at Mira Costa and PVHS won both the Varsity Singles and the JV Singles! Parker Fry is a junior and won the Varsity singles and Lily Kresser, a freshman, won the JV singles. The team lost to Westlake 12-6 in the Open division quarterfinals.

Cross Country competed at the Bay League Finals where Savannah Scriven took first place and Samantha Stemen took second place. Great job to all of our athletes who competed this season. On to CIF!
3. Drama Spotlight
Drama's opening weekend of the musical "Chicago" was all that jazz and more! With sold out shows all weekend long, our students danced and sang for a packed house. If you missed any of the shows this weekend make sure to get your tickets now for next weekend's shows. Don't miss out on this amazing show!
4. PVIT Spotlight
Our outstanding PVIT VEX team brought home 4 top trophies today from the El Camino Real Charter High School Tournament.  Congratulations to Cole Welcher for winning the Judges Award for "showing exemplary effort and perseverance" by single-handedly representing his team. Tyler Ewald, Noah Lin, Dominic Bidondo-Yore, and Aaron Guo of team 62019X brought home the Build trophy for "a well-crafted and constructed robot that also shows a clear dedication to safety and attention to detail", and the Skills trophy for the highest combined Programming and Driving Skills Challenge. Our awesome freshman team of Nick Cosgrove, Elijah Huang, Tony Cha, and team captain Kylie Welcher won the Design Award for "demonstrating an organized and professional approach to the engineering design process, project and time management and team organization"!!  Congratulations to all these PVIT students for these outstanding SeaKing results!
5. Day of the Dead Spotlight
In honor of "Day of the Dead" our leadership students built an altar on the stage and had fun lunchtime activities such as making papel picado or tissue paper roses. This opportunity gave our students the chance to experience a celebration in a different culture.
6. Girls Golf Spotlight
Girls Golf won the CIF Central Division Championship this past week. The team worked incredibly hard all season and this title is a reflection of all of their hard work. Congratulations Coach Rivera, players, and families!
7. Shawn's Garden
If you have walked the main hallways of PV High lately then you might have noticed a new garden pop up by the 300 wing. This garden was planted and is curated by our very own Shawn Kim. Shawn planted this garden in order to relieve stress that students feel and spread positivity and inspiration around campus. Thank you Shawn for continuing to represent everything that it means to be a Sea King!
8. Rotary Teacher of the Year
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary honored PVHS teacher of the year Christina Varela this week. Surrounded by family, friends, and co-workers, all who attended were able to celebrate this great achievement together. Thank you to the PVP Rotary for sponsoring such a great evening and event!
9. Student Spotlight
Erik Gresset, senior, has chosen to do his Eagle Scout project to benefit PV high. Erik has been working tirelessly on his beautification project down by the football field. He has re-done the base with brand new pavers and is working on finishing it with new plants and flowers. Thank you Erik for your hard work and congrats on becoming an Eagle Scout!
