1. Academics Spotlight
January 25, 2020 was the Lunar New Year of the Rat. Ms. Wei’s students from Chinese 1 to 5 including AP students had a chance to learn and experience this most important holiday in Chinese culture by making traditional Spring Scrolls and Rat lanterns, decorating the classroom, researching and presenting individually or in groups via variety of forms. Enjoying all kinds of traditional food while watching part of five-hour-long live Spring Festival Gala during class celebrations was the finale of a series of activities. Thank you to everyone who contributed delicious food and supplies to our class celebrations. Your generosity and support helped create a valuable and authentic learning opportunity for all students. Thank you and Happy New Year to all Sea King families!
2. Athletics Spotlight
Boys Basketball lost to Mira Costa 57-49 and Redondo 72-65.

Girls Basketball team lost to Mira Costa 48-31 and Redondo 58-19.

Girls Water Polo lost to Mira Costa 15-8.

Boys Soccer lost to Mira Costa 3-1 but beat Redondo 3-0.

Girls Soccer beat Mira Costa 2-1 in an exciting overtime game. They also beat Redondo 3-0.

Surf beat South and West high 86-61 in some fun surf at Torrance beach.
3. Tradewinds Spotlight
Our Sea King annual Slam Poetry night was last week. In conjunction with our Tradewinds student produced literary magazine, students shared hand written poems, songs, short pieces and more. Thank you to everyone who supported this event and make sure to look out for the final Tradewinds publication in the yearbook.
4. CARE Club Spotlight
There was a full house on Friday for CARE’s meeting to kick off Black History Month. Videos were shared on Black History, students played a Kahoot & BSU shared all the events that are coming in February for Black History Month. Be on the look out for upcoming events for all Sea Kings!
5. Field Trip Spotlight
Arts and English students combined together this week to make real life interdisciplinary connections. Ms. Warren and Ms. Damon took students on Friday to a docent-led tour of Julie Mehretu at LACMA. Students then had lunch at Grand Central Market.
6. Video Production Spotlight
Students in Video Production 2, 3, 4, and Live from 205 competed in the Freedom 4U film festival. Students took home awards in 6 categories including Best Music Video, Best Horror Project, Best Open Project, Best Recreation, Best Silent Short Story, and Best News Package. Congratulations to all of our students!
7. Voting Drive Spotlight
With the primary elections a little over a month away, Sea Kings took part in the election process by registering to vote during nutrition all week long. Students could register or pre-register to vote if they were not 18 yet. Interested in registering but missed the event? Click here to pre-register now
8. Fashion Club Spotlight
This Wednesday the fashion club met in Ms. Warren’s room and tried their hand at the sewing machine. Final product....scrunchies!! Interested in joining the fashion club? Stop by room 213 at lunch on Wednesdays!
9. Student Spotlight
Natalie Hong competed in the California State Indoor Archery Tournament in the Open Division. After 2 days of competition, Natalie finished in 1st place by just 2 points beating former Iran national archery team member and current Columbia University archery team member. She is currently ranked number 1 female archer in the state of California.

The School Accountability Report Card (SARC) is a document developed by the California Department of Education to provide parents and the community with important information about each school. A SARC can be an effective way for a school to report on its progress in achieving goals. The public may also use a SARC to evaluate and compare schools on a variety of indicators.. The profile summarizes the school's mission, goals, and accomplishments. School report cards must be updated annually.

Peninsula vs Palos Verdes Basketball STUDENT Ticket Sales Procedures

Thursday, February 6th is the final Bay League match-up between our PV Sea Kings basketball teams and our crosstown rivals, Peninsula Panthers.
The games will be played at Peninsula High School, with the girls starting at 6:00pm, followed by the boys at 7:30pm.

ALL (and ONLY) PV High students (grades 9 – 12) interested in entering the ticket opportunity drawing must come to the Student Store on Monday, (Feb. 3) or Tuesday (Feb. 4) between 7:45am and 2:00pm to register for the drawing.

PV High students must bring their PV High Student ID card to register.

The drawing to distribute the game tickets will have two parts:
1.        SUPER SENIOR DRAWING – 50 tickets will go to seniors who have registered for the ticket opportunity drawing. Any senior who is not selected in the Super Senior Drawing will have their names placed in the Regular Drawing pool.

2.       Regular Drawing – the winners of the remainder of the available tickets will then be drawn.

The names of all ticket winners will be posted at the Student Store on Thursday, February 6th. Winners will have until 2pm that day to come to the Student Store and present their ID to pick up/purchase their game ticket.
Tickets are free with 2019-2020 Student ID w/ASB and $8.00 without ASB
