Israeli street artist Know Hope will participate in an artist panel Friday, August 16, to discuss his participation in the 2013 Living Walls Conference. Know Hope arrived last week to produce a mural for the annual conference. His creation is located at 75 Georgia Avenue in Atlanta, GA.

The rankings were determined based on a number of factors, including total entrepreneurship activity in the region, ability to adopt new technologies, and the quality of support networks. Hallelujah is a one-of-a-kind Global Hebrew Singing Contest for Jewish Talent aged 18-30, uniting contestants from all over the world in Israel to explore their heritage, learn about Israeli culture, and meet other young Jews while following their passion for music. Thirty participants will take part in a 20-day program in Israel where they can meet professionals from the Israeli music scene, jam with other musicians from around the world, explore Israel, and perform in front of a live audience at a concert broadcast on Israeli national TV.

Arranged by David and Ursula Blumenthal, Columbus State University presents Salvador Dali's "Aliyah: The Rebirth of Israel." The exhibit consists of 25 lithographs by the influential 20th-century artist tracing key moments in the history of the Jewish people. The exhibit opens to the public August 29, 2013 at the W.C. Bradley Co. Museum, 1017 Front Avenue, Columbus, Georgia.

General Dempsey and Lt. General Gantz Deliver Remarks in Tel Aviv

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces General (****) Martin Dempsey visited Israel on Monday, August 12. During his trip, Dempsey met with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Defense Moshe Ya'alon, and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. General Benny Gantz. In their press conference, Lt. General Gantz thanked Dempsey and explained, "The cooperation between our two countries, and as a result, between our two respective defense organizations is a very important cooperation based on shared values to serve the same interests."
In addition to General Dempsey's visit, United States Air Force Chief of Staff General Mark Welsh participated in a week-long visit to Israel last week and the United States and Israeli Navy completed a joint exercise on Thursday.

In his first visit to Israel as Chief of Staff for the United States Air Force, General Mark A. Welsh met with Commander of the Israeli Air Force Major General Amir Eshel, a graduate of Auburn University at Montgomery, in Alabama. Welsh's visit included meetings with high ranking military officials, tours of strategic air force bases, and a flight tour of Israel's borders to better understand regional security issues. In statement to the press, Welsh commented, "I leave knowing that we have a strong partner in my friend Amir Eshel. Our cooperation will be a critical part of the future, together our future is bright."

Thursday, IBM announced the purchase of Israeli data security firm Trusteer. Though the financial details of the acquistion were not disclosed, market estimates put the price at $630 million. The purchase marks IBM's largest acquisition in Israel, where it already employs some 2,200 people. Trusteer was founded in 2006 by Mickey Boodaei, Rakesh Loonkar, Amit Klein, Shmulik Regev, and Eldan Ben-Haim to provide software solutions against financial fraud and sophisticated security threats. It has offices in Israel and Boston.

The Atlanta area Friends of the IDF, in partnership with Marcus JCC Atlanta, hosted an event last week honoring Lavon Mercer, former University of Georgia and Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball player who went on to join the Israeli Army. Mercer now serves as the Associate Athletic Director for Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. The event also included remarks by an IDF Lone Soldier from the United States.
