Catheter Port for Intrathecal and Intracranial Administration of Chemotherapy
UK researchers have developed a novel catheter port with a trocar that allows the catheter to attach directly to the port without the need for external reinforcement. This design requires significantly less manipulation of the catheter after it is placed, which reduces the risk of the catheter being pulled out of the ventricle during attachment to the drug reservoir.
This technology is safer and poses less risk to patients, allows the catheter to attach directly to the drug reservoir, requires less manipulation for placement, and does not require external reinforcement.

Keith R. Pennypacker, PhD, Professor, Interim Director of the Center for Advanced Translational Stroke Science, Department of Neurology, College of Medicine, University of Kentucky.
Keith created UK startup Cerelux, LLC, which utilizes his project, "The Blood And Clot Thrombectomy Registry And Collaboration (BACTRAC), to develop biomarkers for clinical outcomes and identify molecular targets for therapeutic adjuvant treatments to be used in conjunction with the thrombectomy procedure."
Cerelux, LLC's mission is "to improve the prognosis of stroke patients by developing innovative diagnostics and therapies."
Cerelux, LLC is "discovering in-vitro diagnostics and adjuvant therapies by investigating the cellular/molecular events occurring during a stroke in the vicinity of the infarct by accessing samples from stroke patients during mechanical thrombectomy procedures."
Cerelux, LLC has created "a biobank which includes blood and thrombus samples directly from the brain. These samples provide insight into the early molecular events occurring in stroke to discover 1) biomarkers to predict clinical outcomes and 2) therapeutic targets for adjuvant treatments for the thrombectomy procedure."
