March 2017

This post-Olympic year has not been a sleepy one. Team USA stars are already swimming fast. Nathan Adrian dropped a 48.6 in the 100m free to win
the Arena Pro Swim Indianapolis.
Caeleb Dressel split a 50 free of 17.86 on the 200y free relay at SEC Championships. And, Katie Ledecky has captured the biggest spotlight so far, breaking the 400y IM American record with a 3:57.6. I thought we might get a rest, a short breather before the excitement is unleashed, but the momentum's already ramping up.

If you are not involved, please get involved.

University of Texas alum, Katy Arris-Wilson , was a 20-time All-American,
SWC Champion and NCAA Champion, but her favorite swimming memory was that 1990 NCAA Team Title for her Longhorns. "
The win was memorable," she said, "because we had so many contributors from walk-on's to Olympians - truly a team effort!"

Katy is a proud U.S. National Team a lum , competing for Team USA from 1987-92. She loves attending our U.S. National Team Alumni reunions at the U.S. Olympic Trials, and supporting the new stars of today.  She currently serves the sport as President to Tide Swimming. "Last October we opened the city (and region's) first and only outdoor Olympic size swimming pool," she explained, "a 50 meter Myrtha pool, in partnership with the YMCA of South Hampton Roads and the City of Virginia Beach. We operate out of 5 YMCA facilities and we had year over year membership growth of over 40%." Katy understands how to develop success in the pool, and that starts with attracting the best coaches. Katy led the charge to hire former USA Swimming National Jr. Team Director, Jack Roach to help mentor their younger coaches, coach the high school athletes, and advise their Board and team on how to optimize athlete development.

Katy's support of the sport is passionate and generous. She's also a USA Swimming Foundation Champions Club member"I support Champions Club because I want to see Team USA win AND I'm a huge believer in the positive impact the sport of swimming has on our youth. Younger kids look up to our Olympians and that helps them embrace the challenges this sport, and life, offers."

Katy's married to Kevin Wilson. They have three children, Will (16), Sophie (14) and Kayla (12).  Will and Kayla swim on Tide, Sophie (14) plays soccer.
