Susanne Jean Jones , known to most of us as Suzy Roy, is one or our sport's
biggest, most enduring ambassadors. She trained under Coach George Haines at the Iconic Santa Clara Swim Club
and went on to represent Team USA at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City , but that was only the start of her aquatic adventure.  2016 marks her 50th Anniversary teaching swimming lessons.  Many call Suzy "the swim teacher whisperer" for her soften-spoken style with students ranging from three months to 80 years old.  " I have taught over 10,000 students," Suzy said.  "I teach them to relax, breathe, exhale and let go of their fears.  The water will do the rest.  The joy and appreciation that my students give back to me as they learn to swim is priceless."

Competitive swimming was the catalysis, however. It lit the flame for Suzy's lifelong passion. "I loved being in the water with my team, working out and challenging myself. I loved the satisfaction I felt when my times improved."  Suzy's Olympic dream crystallized in 1960, the Rome Olympics, when Chris von Saltza and Lynn Burke appeared on the cover of Life Magazine. "They were two beautiful, dazzling blonde ladies photographed in a pool of blue water," Suzy explained.  "The day I saw this cover of Life magazine was the day my heart started dreaming of being an Olympic swimmer.  The rest is history."

Suzy and husband Richard had been married 41 years. They have four sons, all swimmers who taught swimming lessons with Suzy. October 12th, Suzy and Richard celebrated the birth of their first grandchild, Alice.
