U.S. Secretary Betsy DeVos keynotes Parents Challenge's 20th Anniversary
U.S. Secretary Betsy DeVos advocated for educational freedom for all families and students in the United States during her keynote address at Parents Challenge’s 20th Anniversary on June 26 at James Irwin Charter High School in Colorado Springs.

More than 400 friends and supporters of Parents Challenge attended the event to see Secretary DeVos and celebrate the organization’s 20th Anniversary of empowering low-income parents with resources and support to choose the best education for their children, be it public, private, charter, or home school.

" Parents Challenge is not a philanthropy, it's a partnership that cultivates relationships and equips parents to make informed decisions so they can remain intimately involved in each step of their child's education ," Secretary DeVos told the gathering.

In her address, Secretary DeVos pointed out that many students in the United States are falling behind academically in the struggling neighborhood schools where they are assigned.  She spoke about the proposal to establish the Education Freedom Scholarship federal tax credit that would empower low-income families with the ability to choose a quality education for their children. She said the plan would net Colorado an extra $60 million in scholarships that would fund a variety of educational needs for families.
