The transformational gift will lessen the financial burden of college costs for generations of students while also supporting the operational needs of the College of Engineering for at least 10 years.
Shamaria Engram Earns PhD in CSE and Makes History
Along with receiving her PhD in Computer Science and Engineering, Shamaria Engram has made history as the first Black women to receive her CSE doctorate in that program.
In Memory of Dr. Paul Schnitzler
We are saddened to report that our friend and retired ISME faculty member, Dr. Paul Schnitzler, passed away December 22, 2020. Paul had an extraordinary corporate career before joining USF in 2005 to teach future engineering leaders through the MS in Engineering Management. A celebration of his life was held in Tampa on January 24, 2021.  
IAE Grand Opening
The Institute of Applied Engineering officially opened their lab space located in the University Mall just west of campus. The Institute is a world class research and education center dedicated to seeking solutions to the security and economic challenges facing the nation. The IAE works with the Dept. of Defense in utilizing USF's core competencies - autonomous systems; cyber security; human performance enhancement technologies; energy and transportation infrastructure systems; and supporting capabilities including data analytics and advanced manufacturing. 
USF E-Council Awarded Best Professional Development at NAESC Southeast Regional Conference
The award is presented to a participating student engineering council that has experienced considerable organizational growth or made strides to redevelop how it serves its institution’s engineering students.
COE Faculty Chairs the AIMBE Conference Equity and Anti-Racism: A Roadmap to Policy Transformation In BME

AIMBE is hosting a virtual summit on January 28-29, 2021 to catalyze institutional changes directed to Biomedical Engineering departments, and their respective institutions, to actively lead the way on anti-racism. COE Professors Norma Alcantar (Chemical) and Sylvia Thomas (Electrical) are members of the Steering Committee.
The goal of the summit is to provide a set of detailed action items that would foster an optimal climate for equity and inclusion on campus. The following themes will be addressed: Culture and Climate, Institutional Policy, Equity and Inclusion, and Public Accountability.

COE Hosts First Virtual Grad School Recruitment Event
On January 19, the COE held its first virtual graduate student recruitment event through a Teams Live Event. Students registered from every state university in Florida as well as out of state universities. The event included an overview of the College and afterward, each department hosted students with a targeted presentation in separate Teams events. A virtual tour of the USF campus concluded the event.
