A Note From Our CEO:
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the UAC Annual Convention last week! It was wonderful to bring county leaders, partners, and friends from across the state together to connect, learn, and share ideas.
There are some exciting things happening at UAC. We recently entered into two new strategic partnerships designed to strengthen the support and value we provide to our members.
UAC has entered into an agreement with the Utah Inland Port Authority to assist with the administration of Inland Port project areas located throughout Utah’s counties. If a UIPA project area exists in your county and you are in need of administrative support, please contact either myself or Sheri Dearden.
We have also formalized a new partnership with Utah Counties Indemnity Pool (UCIP), with an emphasis on greater collaboration around legislative advocacy and training opportunities for county officials. We will be announcing our 2027 training schedule later this fall. If you have any topics that you'd like UAC to provide training for, please contact Laura Barlow.
Both of these strategic partnerships reflect an important part of UAC’s approach moving forward: working collaboratively with organizations that share our commitment to Utah’s counties. By combining expertise, resources, and relationships, we can better meet the evolving needs of our members and continue creating meaningful value for counties across the state.
Thank you for being part of UAC and for the work you do every day to serve Utah’s communities.

2026 UAC Annual Convention Recap
The UAC Annual Convention, held at the Utah Valley Convention Center in Provo, Utah County, brought together county elected and appointed officials from across the state for an engaging and impactful gathering focused on collaboration, professional development, and strengthening county government. As UAC’s largest annual meeting, the convention provided opportunities for members to share proven practices, build relationships, and explore innovative approaches to serving their communities.
A highlight of this year’s convention was the keynote presentation by John Sileo, a nationally recognized cybersecurity expert and speaker. His presentation provided valuable insights into cybersecurity awareness, data protection, and the importance of safeguarding personal and organizational information in an increasingly digital world. His engaging presentation encouraged county leaders to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their communities and county operations.
Throughout the convention, attendees participated in informative sessions, meaningful discussions, and networking opportunities that strengthened knowledge networks and encouraged the exchange of ideas. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration among Utah’s 29 counties and UAC’s ongoing commitment to supporting county officials with the knowledge, resources, and connections needed to improve residents’ lives and the efficiency of county government.

Utah Geological Survey
As Utah continues to grow, counties increasingly rely on accurate geologic information to support responsible land-use planning, infrastructure development, natural resource management, and public safety. Understanding geologic hazards—such as earthquakes, landslides, rock fall, and ground subsidence—can help local officials make informed decisions and better plan for future growth.
The Utah Geological Survey, a division of the Utah Department of Natural Resources, provides timely scientific information about Utah’s geologic environment, resources, and hazards. Its work provides valuable tools and information that counties can use in planning, development, emergency preparedness, and resource management.
