Colleagues,

The turn of a new year is often a time of change. As we prepare for the transition of the associate dean for undergraduate affairs position from myself to Chris Weyant, we regret to announce that Ilene Marker is unable to return to work at this time and we are looking to fill the position of director of student services. Ilene's hope is that she will return to Drexel in some capacity in the future; at this time, we have appointed an interim so as not to continue to burden the team with coverage.

As we prepare for a search for a new director, Emily Bogunovich has agreed to serve as interim director of student services, effective immediately. Emily is currently an associate director on the college advising team, working with Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics students. Emily started her career with Drexel Engineering in 2009. During her tenure, she has taken on many leadership roles including overseeing the expansion of the Engineering Learning Community and serving on the strategic planning committee within the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics Department. She also was the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Academic Advisor Award from both the College of Engineering and the Office of the Provost. She was additionally honored with the Office of the Provost Exemplary Academic Advising Award in 2017. Emily holds a BA in English from Temple University and an MA in English from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

On assuming this new role, Emily shared her gratitude for Ilene's support in recent years and said, "I look forward to collaborating with faculty and staff in maintaining the high quality of undergraduate student advising and services. I am excited for the opportunity to develop and focus on retention strategies and initiatives that will address the needs of the current study body."

Please join me in wishing Ilene well on her recovery, and in welcoming Emily to her new role.
