UAPB Homecoming Schedule Released
Parade Applications Available

The annual Homecoming Celebration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will begin October 8 and end October 14. The theme for this year is “Let the Good Times Roar,” according to Dr. Charles Colen, Homecoming Committee chairperson.

The overview of activities includes events for students, alumni and the Pine Bluff community:

On Sunday, October 8, the celebration will begin with UAPB Day at Full Counsel Church, located 517 S. Cherry Street in Pine Bluff. S. Vincent Johnson is the host pastor. Sponsored by the Word of Faith Student Fellowship – UAPB Chapter, the free, public event begins at 10:30 a.m. and will feature the UAPB Vesper Choir and Marching Band.

The day continues with the Gospel Extravaganza at 7:00 p.m. in the J.M. Ross auditorium of the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, the event will feature recording artists The Walls Group . Admission to the event is $3 for the general public and free to UAPB students with a valid ID.

On Monday, October 9, the momentum continues with the Black and Gold Pride Rally at 10:00 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr., Health Physical Education Recreation (HPER) Complex. All attendees are invited to wear black and gold, bring their pompons and school spirit. The day will end with a comedy show at 7:00 p.m. Details of the show are forthcoming.

On Wednesday, October 11, Salonica Hunter will be crowned the 88th Miss University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff during the Coronation Ceremony at 6:00 p.m. in the HPER Complex arena. The Coronation Ball will begin immediately after at the same location. Formal attire is required.

For alumni, the Homecoming Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, October 12, at 8:30 a.m. at Harbor Oaks Golf Course. Registration information can be obtained by calling the Office of Alumni Affairs at (870) 575-8499.

The annual Yard Jamz will be held later that day from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. in the L.A. Davis, Sr. Student Union. Sponsored by Wal-Mart and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership, the event will include a variety of foods, vendors, and games.

The Marching Musical Machine of the Midsouth (M4) marching band will conclude the day with a bonfire at 9:30 p.m. in the rear of the HPER Complex.

On Friday, October 13, the Annual Alumni Assembly will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the HPER Arena.

Following the assembly, the National Alumni Association will host a Chapter Awards Luncheon and General Business Meeting in the STEM building Conference Center. Tickets for the luncheon are $45 per person and can be purchased by calling (870) 536-2309.

Friday evening, doors will open at 5 p.m. in the HPER Complex arena for the Greek Show. Sponsored by National Pan Hellenic Council, tickets are available for purchase at the UAPB bookstore. While supplies last, tickets will be $10 /person the week before the event, $15/person the week of, and $20 at the door.

The Hall of Fame/King and Queen Banquet will also be held Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the Pine Bluff Convention Center Ballroom. Tickets are $100/person and can be purchased by calling the National Alumni Association at (870) 536-2309.

On Saturday, October 14, the Annual Homecoming Parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Main Street in downtown Pine Bluff. Completed parade applications are due by September 29 can be picked up at the Welcome Center or downloaded via  www.uapb.edu/homecoming .

Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Golden Lion Stadium. Kick-off time is 2:30 p.m. where the Golden Lions will play the Marauders of Central State University. Tickets for the game can be purchased by calling the ticket office at (870) 575-8601 or online at  www.uapblionsroar.com .

The 2017 Homecoming Celebration will conclude with the Battle Royale at 6:00 p.m. in the HPER Arena. Sponsored by the UAPB Marching Band, more information is available by calling (870) 575-8919.
