An important benefit of ASRS safety reports is sharing lessons-learned with the UAS community. We have a collection of UAS de-identified records available on the NASA ASRS website.

Each report offers an opportunity to ask yourself, “What would I have done? ” The selected ASRS reports may not give all the information you want, and you may not be experienced in the type of UAS involved, but each incident should give you a chance to exercise your aviation decision-making skills. The Report Set contains 50 ASRS UAS Database records. Within these 50, 24 events were reported by a UAS crew member and 26 involved a UAS event reported by a manned aircraft crew member.

Flying a 0.055 lbs fixed wing RC in an open park space in early morning. An unleashed dog came running up and created a distraction for a few seconds, at which time the aircraft drifted about 200 yards downwind over nearby residential area. Steered the aircraft back, but at one point the wind and turbulence became too much and the aircraft went down over the residential area. It has so far not been relocated. The winds were much too close to the limits for such a light aircraft.
