UBTS Response to Crisis in Ukraine

UBTS continues to serve as a hub for humanitarian aid in L’viv, as thousands of refugees surge to Western Ukraine from the front lines of the Russian invasion. Located not far from the border with Poland, L’viv has so far not experienced a direct attack, though Russian aircraft have flown over the area and some shells have exploded outside the city.

With its proximity to the border, L’viv is seeing an influx of refugees, most of them women and children, since men ages 18-60 are required to stay in the country.
The emergency response team has served over 250 people so far, offering food, clothing, a safe place to sleep, and assistance with transportation and relocation.

Most of the people are staying only a few days as they plan to cross the border. As one group leaves, more arrive seeking the same help. This steady stream of refugees – most with few possessions other than what they were able to hastily pack and carry – will continue for the foreseeable future. |

The sudden relocation and breakup of families is having a psychological impact, particularly on children. In response, UBTS has created a special play area for children and staff are praying with, encouraging, and counseling families and children.
In a call today to the UPF Board of Directors, Slavik Pyzh, president of UBTS, repeated his request that people continue to pray for a miracle in Ukraine. “I don’t know what form that miracle will take, but we need a miracle. Please pray for a miracle.”

Slavik also is telling his emergency response team that in the midst of the crisis, they are a miracle in the lives of the people they are serving. “So we pray for a miracle and believe it will come. And we can be the miracle for others.”
