Memorial Service Set for 9/17 for Prof. Byron L. Warnken, 'Mr. UB'
The September 5 passing of Professor Emeritus Byron L. Warnken hit our community quite hard. Tributes are pouring in from alumni and colleagues around the country who loved and admired "Mr. UB." Read obituaries in The Daily Record and The Baltimore Sun.

The Warnken family will celebrate his remarkable life and legacy at a memorial service held in the Byron L. Warnken Moot Courtroom at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be streamed live at this link.

The Dobbs Decision: What Does it Mean and What Might Be Next?
In its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the U.S. Supreme Court ended the constitutional right to abortion. But, the Dobbs decision doesn’t just impact abortion access. Our faculty panel will explore how the impact of this decision extends beyond abortion access and discuss how Dobbs may implicate other substantive due-process rights.

Hear from UBalt Law professors Odeana Neal, Michele Gilman, Margaret Johnson and Shanta Trivedi at a Faculty Perspectives discussion at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 28 in the Moot Courtroom. Clinical teaching fellow Jessica Den Houter will moderate the panel.
Preserving Family Integrity is Focus
of Sept. 29 CFCC Symposium

Every day in the United States, our government separates children from their parents. These separations may be based on parents’ incarceration, or due to interventions by the child welfare system. The majority of the families separated by government intervention are racial minorities and economically underprivileged.
 
Regardless of why children are separated from their parents, the impact is severe, and the effects are felt throughout their lives. At its Thursday, Sept. 29 symposium, the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts will focus on some of the causes and consequences of family separation in our country on our most vulnerable children. Keynote speakers are the dynamic Dorothy Roberts and Andrea James in conversation. Learn about all the presenters.
