Law Review Symposium on Antitrust Set for March 10

The UBalt Law Review is hosting a special symposium celebrating the career of Venable Prof. Robert H. Lande, a beloved teacher and colleague, on Friday, Mar. 10 from 9:30 to 6 p.m.

Lande, who is retiring from teaching this summer, was co-founder of the American Antitrust Institute, past chair of the Association of American Law Schools Antitrust Section, an award-winning scholar, and a leading intellectual force behind the 21st century’s reinvigorated antitrust movement.

Distinguished antitrust scholars, practitioners, policymakers and reform advocates will participate in a series of panel discussions addressing competition policy, antitrust law, and Lande’s vital role in shaping the national debate about the need to protect consumers from cartels and monopoly power. Gun Trace Task Force Report Follow-Up on Mar. 13

The Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF) captured national attention as the most shocking police corruption scandal in Baltimore history. The immeasurable harm caused by GTTF includes $22 million in direct payouts to victims to date, and further fraying of the historically troubled relationship between BPD and Baltimore residents, especially in Black and brown communities.

An independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the GTTF resulted in an extensive report detailing corruption, misconduct and dysfunction spanning 20 years.

Please join the law school's Center for Criminal Justice Reform on Monday, Mar. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. to revisit the GTTF report's findings and recommendations and examine whether the proposed reforms have been implemented effectively. This event will give members of the community the opportunity to dialogue with the panelists about the work that remains. Learn more and register.

Meet Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder 3/30

Join us on Thursday, Mar. 30 from 5 to 6 p.m. for a discussion with former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who will discuss his experience in the Obama administration; his book, Our Unfinished March, which chronicles the fight for voting rights; and more.

Prayer Room Set Up in Law Library for Month of Ramadan

A prayer room for Muslim students observing Ramadan has been established on the 8^th floor of the law library (Room 824). Ramadan, which is observed March 22 through April 21, is considered one of the holiest months in the Islam faith.

One of the traditional components of Ramadan is fasting, a way to strengthen spiritual health and self-discipline and feel closer to God.
