Just a few more days! We are accepting nominations through June 30, 2025 for the 2025 Distinguished Alumni Awards. The awards will be presented at a Sept. 18 event at the law school.

UBalt Law Commencement 2025 is in the Books!


The UBalt School of Law held its 97th Commencement ceremonies on May 22 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. UBLAA President Lisa Sparks, J.D. '07, brought greetings from the alumni community. Former State Sen. Jill P. Carter, J.D. 92, delivered the Commencement address.


The community also honored Prof. Jack Lynch, who retired in May, and Prof. Charles Tiefer, who retired in 2024. Enjoy these photos from the event, taken by Maximilian Franz.

Four Alumni Sweep MAJ Awards


At its May 31 President's DInner, the Maryland Association for Justice presented four awards, and all were given to UBalt Law alumni.


Larry Greenberg, J.D. '94, pictured, received the Simon K. Walton Civil Justice Award, for his representation of a client in a case where prosecutorial misconduct was found. The client was found not guilty.


Mary Koch, J.D. '88, a partner at Wais Vogelstein Forman Koch & Norman, was named Trial Lawyer of the Year. Settlement consultant Joanna Wynes, J.D.' 06, received the Women's Caucus Award, and personal injury lawyer Darryl Price, J.D. '94, won the Minority Caucus Award. Congratulations to all!

At its annual meeting in June, the Maryland Bar Foundation inducted these alumni into the 2025 Fellows Class: Richard L. Adams III, J.D. ’17; Benjamin A. Chasen, J.D. ’14; Gwen-Marie A. Davis Hicks, J.D. ’06; Jeremy M. Eldridge, J.D. ’06; Jasmine R. England-Caesar, J.D. ’19; and Valerie Grove, J.D. ’99.

Marisa DeMato, J.D. ’04, has joined DiCello Levitt’s securities practice group in New York as a partner.


Laura Wakefield, J.D. ’04, has joined Westcor Land Title Insurance as an underwriting counsel and agency representative on its Virginia team.


Gregory E. Walker, J.D. ’06, started a new position as an associate with The Texas Criminal Defense Group.


Nasim Deylami Fussell, J.D. ’09, was named vice president of trade and international policy at the Business Roundtable, an advocacy association of chief executive officers.

 

Andrew Moss, J.D. ’10, was named deputy comptroller for community and industry relations in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Washington, D.C.

Heather Arbogast, J.D. ’10, was recognized in the 2025 Chambers and Partners USA Guide. She is a partner at McGuireWoods in Baltimore, MD.


Courtney Colonese, J.D. ’13, started a new position as Cite Checker for the Massachusetts Law Review, at the Massachusetts Bar Association.


Ben Middleton, J.D. ’15, started a new position as attorney at Humphreys, McLaughlin & McAleer in Baltimore, MD.


Jessica Duvall, J.D. ’18, started a new position as an associate at Levin Gann in Towson, MD.


Genna J. Hoy, J.D. ’18, has joined the board of Empower4Life, a nonprofit serving homeless youth in Baltimore and Harford County, MD.


Becca Odelius, J.D.’23, started a new position as volunteer manager at Pro Bono Resource Center in Baltimore, MD.


Niels Drury, J.D. ’24, has joined the Maryland Office of the Public Defender as an assistant public defender.


Marcella Labellarte, J.D. ’24, became a staff attorney at Maryland Legal Aid in Baltimore, MD.


Lawrence Mark Vincent, J.D. ’77, passed away on May 23, 2025, in Baltimore, MD.


Denise Charlotte Barrett, J.D. ’89, passed away May 24, 2025 in Baltimore, MD.
