I am pleased to announce the culmination of an historically significant, multiyear endeavor: The Orange County Holocaust Oral History Project, over 150 firsthand accounts of Orange County residents who experienced the Holocaust, is now available and searchable online. Thanks to philanthropic support from the community and a collaboration with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, UC Irvine Libraries have helped make the complete collection available to the public with enhanced records.

You'll also find below a host of other resources designed to support researchers at all stages. The depth and breadth covered in this newsletter demonstrate the Libraries' commitment to providing accessible, open information for all.

Special Collections and Archives Temporary Location and Hours

To accommodate the relocation of the Libraries' Special Collections and Archives (SCA) book holdings to a new storage area within our library buildings, SCA is open by appointment only through March 2026. For the remainder of the winter quarter, students and researchers may schedule appointments to view archival materials on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in Langson Library 570.

Comics Beyond the Margins Exhibit Opening

Join UC Irvine Libraries to celebrate the opening of our upcoming exhibit, Comics Beyond the Margins: Stories of Empowerment, Identity, and Imagination. Featuring comics from the 1960s to the present, the exhibit will highlight visually stunning and powerful examples of personal narratives, activism, and unconventional storytelling.

Dawn of a Campus

Don't miss this limited-run 60th anniversary exhibit that features excerpts from a special edition of the Orange Coast Daily Pilot newspaper published on UC Irvine's first day of classes in 1965. Welcoming the newest UC, the paper profiles founding faculty and charter class students as well as forecasts UC Irvine’s future growth and the deep cultural and economic impact it would have on the local community and beyond.

A snapshot of the 1960s, the Daily Pilot issue also explores the topics of the era weighing heavily on the minds of students and faculty — civil rights and race relations, Vietnam War and draft, communism, and nuclear war.

Echolalia

Echolalia is a student-run undergraduate literary journal at UC Irvine that seeks to build community and compile student stories. They accept a variety of creative works, with most being prose or poetry, based on each volume’s theme. This student display covers the journal’s history and operations, past and present journal volumes, and an overview of the community they’re cultivating on the UC Irvine campus.

Reverberations: How Ngũgĩ Lives On

UC Irvine students were invited to submit work that engages with key themes in the work of Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o, former professor of Comparative Literature and English and the founding director of UC Irvine's International Center for Writing and Translation. This display shares the submissions, including poems, visual art, and dance.
