JULY WORSHIP SERIES

Join us this Sunday for the final sermon of our July worship series, REEL FAITH.
This Sunday's Sermon is focused on the film:
We All Need Grace

Just Mercy Synopsis: After graduating from Harvard, Bryan Stevenson heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or those not afforded proper representation. One of his first cases is that of Walter McMillian, who is sentenced to die in 1987 for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite evidence proving his innocence. In the years that follow, Stevenson encounters racism and legal and political maneuverings as he tirelessly fights for McMillian's life.
Welcome back UCC CYF Youth!
This past week our CYF youth (grades 9-12) were in Jefferson City, TN for their service-learning trip! They served at Appalachian Ministries of the Smokies! AMS is a ministry that is connected to Carson-Newman University that does home repair construction, has a food pantry, clothing ministry and a local shelter. We are so grateful that they returned home safely and had an amazing trip!
College Students - Last Chance to be "Adopted"
LAST DAY to sign up is Sunday, July 31!

"Adopt a College Student" is a ministry of inclusivity, generosity, and compassion for college students near and far. Receive care packages, encouragement, etc. during your college journey from generous UCC volunteers who care about your educational journey and wish to support you throughout the year!
Academy 4 Lunch & Learn
Tuesdays, Now until September 13
At Noon on Zoom

As we expand our program to 40 schools this year, we have the opportunity to positively influence even more students at a time when they need relationships the most. We can’t do this without our wonderful volunteers.
We are moving toward our goal of providing a mentor for all 3,000 students we expect to serve this year. Each Tuesday at noon from now until September 13, we are hosting a virtual Lunch and Learn to explain how and why Academy 4 works. Anyone interested in learning about our program may join us on Zoom here: goa4.org/lunchandlearn
Box-It Distribution Day (BIDD)
Thursday, August 11
7am-12pm and 2pm-5pm
Outside at UCC’s Children’s Closet

Join us for a fun day of packing boxes with school uniforms and distributing them to FWISD School Counselors. This UCC volunteer opportunity will ensure a smooth start to the school year for FWISD counselors who facilitate the distribution of school uniforms (donated by the Children’s Closet) to vulnerable elementary students in the district.
Volunteers will pack “Starter Kits,” that include uniform shirts and pants, for 40 schools. Other volunteers will load the boxes into counselors’ cars as they drive through the church parking lot later in the day. The packing and loading work will be strenuous and the weather is likely to be hot.

UCC Identity
As the hot summer days begin to wind down and the preparation for fall winds back up, we will be highlighting the core values of UCC each week to hopefully offer some inspiration into your lives. Let these be a reminder to you that you are living out Christ's courageous love with us.

An open-hearted church for curious minded people
ONLINE SECURITY REMINDER: Recently a number of local churches have received several reports of members being contacted through email or social media sites such as Facebook by fake profiles claiming to be church staff. Some reminders about online security:
  • Be very careful if you receive messages that sound in any way suspicious or arrive at suspicious times, such as during the middle of the night.
  • Some of these messages contain links that, when clicked, can download malware to your computer. Don't click on any links received through Facebook Messenger or direct messages from Instagram.
  • UCC ministers and staff do not use social media direct messaging to ask for assistance or money.
  • Only give money through secure, trusted sources, and if you are not sure, contact the church first.
