November Newsletter

Dear ,

I was appalled last month when Russian warships attacked Ukrainian ships in the Sea of Azov. Since November 25th, 24 Ukrainian sailors are held in Russian captivity. This latest act of aggression brought home once again that Ukraine is constantly under military attack by Russia. The international community must respond forcefully to this latest brazen escalation by Russia, by increasing military support to Ukraine and significantly strengthening sanctions against Russia.
Last week,  Ukrainian communities from around the world gathered in Kyiv for the XI Ukrainian World Congress .  I'm pleased to report UCC President Paul Grod was unanimously elected President of the Ukrainian World Congress!  Congratulations to Paul and his family as he begins this new role, I know that Ukrainians around the world will benefit from his leadership and vision.  Thank you to outgoing UWC President Eugene Czolij, who also served as UCC's President, for his dedication and commitment to Ukraine and Ukrainian communities around the world.

This past month has been dedicated to Holodomor commemoration across Canada and around the world.  It's very heartening to see a growing number of Holodomor commemorations in this 85th year since this terrible Genocide. Ukraine also hosted the International Holodomor Forum, where many Canadians participated in the discussions and presentations.
This coming weekend the Ukrainian Canadian Congress will hold our  Annual General Meeting in Montreal, and I'll be sure to send you a special update on those proceedings.

Thank you again for your commitment and support!

Ihor Michalchyshyn
UCC CEO & Executive Director
