Janice brings skills as an accomplished writer, naturalist, program manager, and informal educator of children and families. Her creative and engaging presentation style stimulates curiosity and imagination of event participants and volunteers, as they sharpen observations and problem-solving skills. She completed her Master of Science Degree in Recreation, Parks and Tourism from Ca State University, Sacramento in 2013, with a special interest in the connection between recreation, health, and wellness benefits of nature across the lifespan.

The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) invites adults interested in helping others learn about gardening and landscaping to apply to train as a Master Gardener volunteer. UC Master Gardener volunteers learn University-based scientific information and then share that knowledge with the community. Master Gardener volunteers are people of all ages and from all walks of life with a common desire to help others learn about sustainable landscape and gardening. More Information

Who Can Apply?
- Any adult resident of El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras or Tuolumne county.
Need to Know
- Training will take place virtually and in person.
- Applicants need internet access as most communication will be through email and websites.
- Instruction will include hands-on labs, projects, homework, exams, and lecture.
How to Apply
- Attend one of our October 2023 orientation meetings to learn about the Master Gardener Program, our community involvement, and your participation requirements.
- Application will open mid-October and be due before November 1, 2023.

Master Gardeners are committed to educating the general public on sustainable horticulture and pest management based on traditional, current, and evolving research. Sherwood Demonstration Garden is designed to provide the public with a hands-on, interactive experience about research-based, sustainable gardening practices specific to the west slope of El Dorado County, appropriate for all ages and cultures, and reflective of a variety of environments and gardening experiences.

Noah Cooke has been with CFHL since September 2022, starting as a CES 2 in Placer/Nevada counties. He holds a B.S. in Nutrition and Food from CSU Sacramento and is passionate about food literacy and food system resilience in rural communities. Noah spends his spare time hiking, rock climbing, fermenting foods, and playing with his dog, Rumi. Noah can be reached at nacooke@ucanr.edu.

Mary is a former owner/director of a youth dance academy. She has a passion for teaching and connecting with people of all ages. More recently, Mary worked with seniors as an activity director for an assisted living community.
Mary lives in Murphys with her husband, two children and spoiled dogs. She loves to sew dance costumes in her spare time.

Farrah has several years of administration experience and is a certified Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Farrah enjoys spending her free time outside, cooking, and being with family and friends. She is very excited to start this new role and work in the field she is so passionate about.

Lisa earned an Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences from Cabrillo College, with passion to learn the in’s and outs of how our body works. She is also a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. She recently completed a Cadaver anatomy course here at Columbia College and a course surveying local mushroom and fungi in the high sierra.
Lisa enjoys exploring her new home in Tuolumne County. She loves to cook and try new foods to incorporate in her home cooking for her family. She loves to travel and shop at estate sales in her free time!
