Office of Sustainability Update

The Office of Sustainability held the CU President's Sustainable Solutions Challenge (PSSC). This competition seeks to encourage student-led innovation in sustainability at UCCS or throughout the entire CU System.

The Office wants to thank CU President Todd Saliman for providing $3,000 to support the competition!

Pitch night was December 1st! We had three amazing pitches that ranged from food insecurity to public transit issues on campus. The competition judges included:

  • Christine Biermann is an associate professor of geography and environmental studies at UCCS.
  • Polly Knutson is the assistant director of dining and hospitality services and farm program manager at UCCS.
  • James Baginski is a senior instructor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at UCCS.
  • Joel Tonyan is the director of user experience and an associate professor in the Kraemer Family Library at UCCS.
  • Vee Garcia is the grant coordinator for the Green Action Fund and a graduate student at UCCS.

Couldn't make it this year? That's okay! PSSC happens every fall semester.

Battery Recycling Program

The Office is focusing our efforts on recycling rechargeable and lithium batteries. We are no longer accepting alkaline and carbon zinc batteries. Please reference the graphic and website for more details.

Consider using rechargeable batteries. Battery technology has improved greatly, and you can save money.

You can drop off your batteries in black five-gallon buckets that are located in buildings across campus. Click on the button down below to find a map of all battery recycling locations.
