Dear UCEA friends and family.
2022 is off to a roaring start! Here in Michigan we’ve had the big snow, the big melt, and the big freeze … all in the space of 10 days. I hope your winters have been gentler.
This Spotlight has information on AERA, teasers about Convention 2022 in Seattle, graduate student updates, and ongoing policy discussions/issues. You don’t want to miss out on any of it.
Speaking of AERA, we, along with Divisions A and L, are looking forward to welcoming the 2022 David L. Clark scholars to San Diego on April 20. I am grateful to all those who reviewed nominations and provided wonderful feedback for our scholars. We have a wonderful cohort – keep an eye on your social media for more news about this year’s scholars.
The Jackson Scholars will also be meeting during AERA for their Research Symposium and for further development on April 21. The Researcher Development Program (RDP), a joint effort between the UCEA GSC and the AERA School Improvement SIG, will be meeting as well. Lastly, keep on the lookout for an invitation to our Joint Reception with Divisions A and L and SAGE.
In other important UCEA news, we are happy to share the call for the 2022 Jackson Scholars, as well as the UCEA Faculty and Leadership Excellence Awards. The Jackson Scholar nominations are due May 15 so work with your faculty and PSR to identify an outstanding Doctoral Student of Color for this mentoring and development opportunity. The Faculty Awards deadline is June 1 – I know you know some amazing colleagues to nominate. The Leadership Awards have different timelines – including a deadline for a letter of intent for programs applying for the Excellence in Educational Leadership Preparation Program - so check the website. We will be updating all this information in the coming week. In the meantime, start thinking about who to nominate for all of these UCEA initiatives.
As always, I want to share my appreciation to all of you for your continued involvement in and commitment to UCEA!
Adelante UCEA,
Mónica Byrne-Jiménez

UCEA Graduate Student Council (GSC)
The UCEA Graduate Student Council (GSC) extends their gratitude to Lamar Foster, Annie Maselli, and Joonkil Ahn for their dedicated service during their terms on the council, and for their continued support of graduate students pursuing careers in the field of educational leadership. Their departure leaves several vacancies on the GSC, and we want to let graduate student members of UCEA know that the GSC will soon begin its annual recruitment process for new members. Please follow the GSC on any one of their social media channels and keep a look out for upcoming announcements related to new member recruitment.

Annual William L. Boyd National Educational Politics Workshop
The Annual William L. Boyd National Educational Politics Workshop will be held as part of the virtual AERA meeting in April. Sponsored by the Politics of Education Association (PEA), UCEA, and AERA Division L. Workshop coordinators are seeking emerging scholars and mentors for the 2022 Workshop.
The Workshop was established in 2008 to provide an opportunity for emerging scholars to interact with leading politics and policy of education scholars. It was renamed the following year to honor Dr. William Lowe Boyd, a luminary in the field of educational policy, politics, and administration. The workshop will pair emerging scholars and established mentors and this year Boyd mentoring will be online due to the partial virtual convention and the varying time zones of our participants. If we have enough Boyd participants attending the conference, we are hoping to offer an optional in-person social gathering this year.
