After the inception of Latinxs and the Environment (L&E) at UC Berkeley by Dr. Federico Castillo, PhD, and Lupe Gallegos-Diaz, MSW in 2017, the program recently added a branch at UC Riverside (UCR) under the direction of Dr. Sam Ying, PhD. We spoke to Dr. Ying and some of the key student leaders from L&E to get an insider's perspective on it's growth and expansion.

Research is revealing the impact of climate change on pathogen and disease spread. The UC Davis Veterinary Medicine One Health Institute's work on the topic, including developing technology to study bats more efficiently and safely, was featured on PBS NewsHour on March 1.
On May 9, 2023, UC Survivors and Allies will lead a Survivor Teach In: From Surviving to Healing on the UCLA campus. The group will share findings from students on their experiences with resources for survivors of sexual violence.
HEAL recently launched its Campaneros en Salud (CES) Leadership Program as part of its strategy to impact health workers closer to where they live and work. The year-long program is taught by the HEAL team at CES and alumni entirely in Spanish.
The editors of Advances in Global Health will be hosting a workshop at CUGH 2023 for early stage investigators (ESI) from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The workshop will take place on April 13th from 1:00pm-5:00pm.
The University of California’s (UC) Center for Climate, Health and Equity (CCHE) is sponsoring a novel “Student Climate Ambassador” program for UC students systemwide. Applications are due April 14th, 2023.
