Happy New Year from UCGHI Director,

Dr. Madhavi Dandu!

Dear UCGHI Community,

For many of us, times of transitions, like the new year, can be an opportunity for reflection and reset. My own personal reflections have included gratitude for my family, friends, colleagues, and this community and the ways in which you each inspire me with your passion towards your work and life. How each of you shows up every day is a reminder to me of the values we share.

Our local and global community is deeply committed to global health equity and justice for everyone. The work can be gratifying and motivating, but also can feel endless and exhausting. Moments of rest, when possible, feel necessary and rejuvenating. As we start the new year, we do remember that not everyone had the privilege of these essential moments of rest, and we are thinking of all of you. At the moment that I write this, I am also holding space for our Southern California community as they face devastating wildfires (follow along on our Instagram as we share resources). We know that similar climate disasters are also occurring elsewhere and will continue. Recovery, repair, community care, mitigation, and prevention are part of the work ahead and we stand with you.

As an organization, we have spent the last year doing a lot of work to reflect and vision as well. As you may recall, near the end of 2023 we embarked on a 5-year strategic planning process. Over that time, we heard from many of you about the ways in which UCGHI has added to your life and work and other ways we could do better as an institute. We are grateful for you taking the time to share your thoughts with us. This new year feels like a perfect time to share the results of that process. In this newsletter, you will find a 2-page summary of our strategic plan with a new vision, mission, priorities, and guiding values. As with all strategic planning, the real work lies in the implementation. We see this work as a collective living document, so your feedback and input will always be appreciated. And as one final reset to the year, excitingly, we are also launching a new website with a fresh look, which we hope will allow us all to connect more easily. Please take a look and continue to stay in close touch.

I am sending you all wishes for health and peace in the year ahead.

Madhavi
