Longtime UCI Law supporters, Richard and Susan Bridgford, have created a substantial endowed scholarship in their name to support future law students. Since our founding 15 years ago, Rich, Susan, and Rich’s law firm Bridgford, Gleason & Artinian LLP, have made an extraordinary impact on UCI Law with their generosity, vision, and service to the school and our law students. Rich has chaired our Board of Visitors since 2019. Rich, Susan and the firm's gifts to the Law School have exceeded $2 million.

The Honorable Sunshine Suzanne Sykes, U.S. District Judge for the Central District of California, will deliver the keynote address for UCI Law's 2024 commencement ceremony Friday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at the UCI Bren Events Center. A member of the Navajo Nation, Judge Sykes is the first Native American Article III judge in California.

After several years of organizing to purchase the park, the CED Clinic helped facilitate the purchase of Shady Lakes Manufactured Housing Community by Comunidad Nuevo Lago, Inc., a resident-controlled nonprofit, for $7.625 million in February. This acquisition, supported by CED students under the direction of UCI Law Professors Carrie Hempel, Adam Cowing, and Robert Solomon, alongside UCI Law Lecturer Ana Marie del Rio, ensures long-term affordability for the farmworker community.

Keep the book celebration going by perusing "Legal Phantoms: Executive Action and the Haunting Failures of Immigration Law" (Stanford University Press 2024), a new release co-authored by Prof. Stephen Lee with Susan Bibler Coutin, UC Irvine professor of criminology, law and society, and Jennifer M. Chacón, professor of law at Stanford. In addition, Prof. Sameer Ashar contributed two chapters. The book tells the story of the nation’s Deferred Action programs, including Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) announced by President Obama in 2014 and enjoined by the Courts in 2015. 


UCI Law has been awarded two charitable grants by the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) Charitable Fund. The OCBA Charitable Fund is dedicated to improving the Orange County community and the legal profession by promoting access to justice. The grants will support UCI Law's Saturday Academy of Law and Pre-Law Outreach Program.


UCI Law's Center for Land, Environment and Natural Resources (CLEANR) released the results of a one-year investigation into California pesticide regulatory practices at a press conference in Watsonville, California. Released on February 15, 2024, the advisory opinion by the People’s Tribunal on Pesticide Use and Civil Rights in California outlines severe, pervasive, and ongoing civil rights violations by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and six of the state’s county agricultural commissioners.


Sarah Beydoun (’23) will serve as the inaugural Legal Empowerment Attorney at UCI Law, in partnership with El Centro Cultural de México, a volunteer-led alternative space in Santa Ana focusing on local and transnational projects that link the arts, culture, and social justice. Serving as a key liaison between UCI Law's clinics and El Centro, Beydoun will engage in several projects, including offering direct legal services, supporting grassroots campaigns, and contributing to program design and development.
