New publication addresses complex web of inequality in North American schools
Prof. Gilberto Q. Conchas served as lead editor on a new book that reveals historical biases relating to non-dominant youth and calls for reforms in the name of social justice. A School of Education alumna and doctoral student served as co-editor.
New associate dean of faculty development and diversity appointed
Prof. Elizabeth Peña will provide administrative leadership for the School’s commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive community.

The UCI School of Education welcomed 29 doctoral students, an all-time high for an entering cohort at the School.

Steve Graham (right), Warner Professor, Arizona State University, will present: “Research Based Practices for Improving Secondary Writing Instruction.”

The WRITE Center is an IES-funded project that is poised to become a national center for the study of secondary writing.

Register now for UCI Writing Project Workshop Series
The three-part workshop series, "Research-Based Strategies to Enhance Learning for All Students" begins on October 30.

Antero Garcia , assistant professor, Stanford University, and Nicole Mirra , assistant professor, Rutgers University, will present on "Fostering Collaborative Inquiry and Civic Engagement through Youth Participatory Action Research." The event will run 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

UCI Writing Project to host annual Literacy Conference

December 5, 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
The daylong conference from the UCI Writing Project will feature workshops and keynote speakers Kelly Gallagher and Penny Kittle, co-authors of 180 Days: Two Teachers and the Quest to Engage and Empower Adolescents.
