UCIE Staff Spotlight: Giancarlo Mariani

Hi, my name is Giancarlo Mariani. I am the Associate Director for International Enrollment Management. I am recent hire, and It has been close to 2 months since I have been in this position. I have been in Higher Education for almost ten years, and before WSU, I worked at Sinclair Community College. At Sinclair I have covered many roles, but wherever I was I have always had one focus “help student achieve their dreams,” and I plan to continue that here. I have graduated from WSU International Studies program, and I recently completed my masters in Marketing. I see in Higher Education a tool to be a better professional but also a Better Human.

Although I was born in the USA, I spent most of my life abroad. I was raised in a small town outside of Rome, Italy, and that is what I consider to be home. I am fluent in Italian, and I do understand Spanish and some French. As every Italian I love my family, our food, and soccer, all of them equally. I love learning new cultures, traveling, and I love to cook.

I am married to my beautiful wife for four years, and we have a son that just turned 3. They are the center of gravity to me everything I do revolves around the love I have for them, and that Is a fact. I hope to see you, and please feel free to stop me and talk to me whenever you like, there are not many introvert Italians, and I promise I am not one of them.
