UCNS Update
March 2021
UCNS Certification Approved for Advertising Purposes in Texas
The Texas Medical Board (TMB) approved the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties’ application for specialty board certification advertising recognition at its March 4, 2021 meeting. Following a presentation by UCNS to the TMB, the Board determined that UCNS certification requirements are substantially equivalent to the requirements of the American Board of Medical Specialties and the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists, resulting in approval of UCNS as a certifying board recognized for purposes of advertising.

The approval allows physicians practicing in Texas who are UCNS-certified in Autonomic Disorders, Behavioral Neurology & Neuropsychiatry, Clinical Neuromuscular Pathology, Geriatric Neurology, Headache Medicine, Interventional Neurology, Neurocritical Care, Neuroimaging, or Neuro-oncology to promote their UCNS certification in their advertising. Approval was granted for a five-year period at which time another application will be submitted to extend the recognition.
Comment Period Closes March 26th
UCNS Fellowship Program and Certification Eligibility Requirements
The UCNS accreditation program requirements and certification eligibility documents are developed in coordination with subspecialties to administer the accreditation and certification processes. Substantive changes to existing documents or implementation of new documents require a comment period.

UCNS is proposing changes to its accreditation Common Program Requirements and certification General Eligibility Requirements. These documents are used as the foundation for developing subspecialty-specific accreditation program requirements and certification eligibility requirements.

In addition, UCNS is in the process of completing its regular five-year review of all subspecialty-specific program requirements. Several subspecialty program requirements are also ready for comment.

UCNS stakeholders are invited to review these changes and submit comments during a 30-day comment period. Documents, descriptions of changes, and instructions for submitting comments are available on the UCNS website. Contact [email protected] with questions.
