Board of Education approves revised 2020-2021 school calendars
At its June 2 meeting, the Union County Board of Education approved revised school calendars for the 2020-2021 school year.
 
The calendars adhere to a recently passed state law requiring all North Carolina schools to have their first instructional day on Aug. 17. The law also requires school districts to include five remote learning days in their 2020-2021 calendars and end school no later than June 11, 2021.
Union County Board of Education seeks 2020 school construction bond 
At its June 2 meeting, the Union County Board of Education unanimously approved an agenda item to request that the Union County Board of County Commissioners present a school construction bond referendum on the November 2020 General Election ballot.

The bond request is for seven projects at a cost of $129,503,270.
UCPS Class of 2020 Graduation Schedule
On May 28, the Union County Board of Education approved a plan to hold traditional graduation ceremonies in high school stadiums, with safety procedures in place for social distancing. Graduations will be held June 22-26, with rain dates scheduled throughout the week and on June 27.

CATA
This fall, Central Academy of Technology & Arts senior Jake Karas will attend Florida Polytechnic University and major in engineering! After that, he plans to fulfill his dream of being a Disney Imagineer.
Cuthbertson High
This fall, Cuthbertson High senior and TikTok star Josh Cureton will attend the University of Miami! Josh will major in political science and plans to become a lawyer in the future. He also plans to continue pursuing a career in entertainment.
Forest Hills High
Forest Hills High senior Jafet Gamboa will attend Tulsa Welding School in the fall! After welding school, Jafet hopes to pursue a career in welding while traveling the world.
Sun Valley High
Sun Valley High senior Kennedy Rowland will attend Central Piedmont Community College! Kennedy hopes to join the Charlotte Fire Department after graduating from CPCC. Her ultimate goal is to be the Fire Chief for the Stallings Fire Department.
UCEC
Union County Early College senior Davida Massard will graduate with both a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree! After graduation, she plans to enroll in cosmetology school. Her ultimate goal is to become an esthetician and own her own salon.
Parkwood High
Parkwood High senior Janna Townsend will attend UNC Chapel Hill and double major in global studies and political science as well as minor in Korean . Ultimately, she hopes to work for the State Department.
Monroe High
Monroe High senior Alba Capote is ready to serve her country! After graduation, Alba will join the U.S. Air Force. She plans to pursue dental assisting while in the military.
Piedmont High
Piedmont High senior Conner Baucom plans to go to UNC Chapel Hill and pursue a career in medicine! He plans to become a surgeon in the future.
Weddington High
Weddington High senior Avery Kimbrough will attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point! Ultimately, he hopes to serve in the Army and pursue a career in military intelligence.
Porter Ridge High
Porter Ridge High senior Zoe Evans will attend Princeton University this fall! In the future, she hopes to become a doctor.
Marvin Ridge High
Marvin Ridge High senior Hadley Ladue graduated from high school in only three years! This fall, she will attend Appalachian State University and major in secondary education. She hopes to become an educator in the future.
Wolfe School
Congratulations to Wolfe School senior Hunter King ! Hunter has grown leaps and bounds during his time at Wolfe School and was among the first students to participate in the district's Project Search program.
