2020-2021 Budget Proposal
During the May 5 Board of Education meeting, UCPS Superintendent Dr. Andrew Houlihan presented his 2020-2021 budget proposal. The budget includes three focus areas for the next year: Sustaining Operations, Investing in our Employees and Investing in our Future.

UCPS Teacher of the Year
During a virtual celebration on May 6, Marvin Ridge High teacher Dareion Malone was named the 2020-2021 UCPS Teacher of the Year.

For winning the countywide Teacher of the Year title, the Union County Education Foundation will award Malone $1,000 for his personal use. Additionally, Malone will now represent UCPS in the regional Teacher of the Year program.
Learning in the U on UCTV
UCPS and Union County Government are now providing at-home educational opportunities for elementary students during the school closure.

Learning in the U, which airs on UCTV Channel 16, provides free content specifically geared for Union County students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Board of Education Update
During the May 5 Board of Education meeting, board members approved a resolution requesting the North Carolina State Board of Education reconsider the grading policies and allow all North Carolina graduating seniors to have the same opportunities to choose how the final grade for second semester courses will be documented on their transcripts.
#TeamUCPS Teacher and Staff Appreciation Shoutouts
During the week of May 4, UCPS celebrated its annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.

More than 400 parents, students, community members and employees submitted their personal stories of appreciation for staff members on our Teacher and Staff Appreciation "digital wall."

Thank you for taking the time to recognize our teachers and staff members who go above and beyond each and every day.

The EmpowerED Family Portal not only offers more than 60 digital resources and texts, but also includes links to a number of optional extended learning opportunities for students across all grade levels.

On the website, you can also find additional information about the district's remote learning plan, remote learning guidelines, frequently asked questions about remote learning, tutorial videos, supplementary resources and more.

As a Reminder
Union County Government recently launched its UC Cares digital portal to help Union County residents quickly find support resources that may help them through impacts related to the COVID-19 pandemic. UC CARES is organized by “Get Help” and “Give Help,” and resources may be easily navigated by topic.

Additionally, the Coronavirus Updates webpage on the UCPS website is also available to connect families to critical resources during the pandemic.
