UCPS Bond Update
UCPS would like to provide an update on its bond projects, which included $54 million in funding for a new transportation facility as well as construction projects at the following schools:
  • Western Union Elementary
  • Porter Ridge Middle
  • Piedmont High
  • Porter Ridge High
  • Monroe High
  • Sun Valley High

In 2017, the Board of Education voted to adjust the scope of these bond projects. This decision was made due to changes in cost from initial or early bid estimates and an updated school capacity study completed by Dr. Jerome McKibben and Mr. Matthew Cropper.

Although individual bond project budgets have changed, the total bond budget remains at approximately $54 million, which is what was approved by the voters in 2016.

Join UCPS as we discuss the effect of toxic stress on health
UCPS and Novant Health invite families to watch the film "Resilience" at Marvin Ridge High on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Following the film, a moderated panel of therapists, social workers and medical physicians will discuss how trauma and stress on adolescents cause long-term physical and mental health issues.
Each month, we feature an EmpowerED classroom and explain how our teachers are transforming learners into leaders through meaningful connections, collaboration and creation.

Click on the video to see how Marvin Ridge Middle teacher Ron Kinyanjui keeps his students engaged in class by incorporating hands-on activities into social studies lessons.
In Case You Missed It
Would you like to be principal for a day?
Every year, the Union County Education Foundation's (UCEF) BizEd program celebrates public education in Union County while also offering business and community leaders opportunities to connect with schools.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12 and Wednesday, Nov. 13, community members are invited to shadow one of UCPS’ 53 principals during the morning. Participants can tailor their schedule to their interests, see the inner workings of the school, and connect with students and staff.
