June Board of Directors Meeting


The UCR Board of Directors were pleased to have Jamie Benson, President of the Alaska Trucking Association in attendance at the June Board of Directors meeting to provide an overview of current projects and safety initiatives of the association.


The UCR Board of Directors also enjoyed a tour of the Don Young Port of Alaska. Special thanks to Jim Jager and Ronnie Poole for providing such an interesting and informative tour.

Inspector Recognition


The inspector who noted the most UCR violations in June 2025 was MCS Officer Brett Hoagland, Montana Department of Transportation. Officer Brett issued 46 violations. 


The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Enforcement Subcommittee is pleased to recognize the inspector who issues the highest number of UCR violations each month. An annual award will be presented to the inspector with the most cumulative violations over the year. The mission of the UCR Enforcement Subcommittee is to increase UCR enforcement, standardize enforcement practices, support enforcement agencies, and provide education and training resources. Policy Spotlight: Investment Policy

This Policy sets forth the investment policies by which the investment of UCR Plan Reserve Funds and Excess Fees (“UCR Assets”) are managed. Deviation from this Policy is not permitted without explicit authorization from the UCR Board of Directors.

Carney Meets With Automakers as Canada’s Factories Show Strain

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with automotive executives July 2 to discuss how to help auto plants that have been choked by U.S. tariffs. Canada exports most of the vehicles it produces to the U.S., but President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he’ll use tariffs to try to redirect production to the U.S.

New ATRI report shows trucking profitability severely squeezed by high costs, low rates

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is releasing the 2025 findings of its leading costs and performance benchmarking report, “An Analysis of the Operational Costs of Trucking.” “The trucking industry is facing the most challenging freight market in years with loads down and costs increasing,” said Greg Hodgen, Groendyke Transport Inc. president, CEO.
