Doctors See Bright Future for Augmented Sight

KGO | After a decade of research, the Second-Site system developed by Jacque Duncan , MD, and colleagues has gained FDA approval. The device consists of a headset with a video camera that relays signals to a tiny strip implanted behind the eye. The signals bypass the retina and stimulate the patient’s optic transmitters directly, allowing previously blind patients to regain some sight.

Meet the Mites That Live On Your Face

KQED | "When you tell patients that they have face mites, first of all, they freak out," said Kanade Shinkai , MD, PhD. Face mites spend most of their time tucked inside the pores, but while people sleep, they crawl out onto the skin's surface to mate and then head back to lay their eggs. You almost certainly have them, but for the vast majority of people, face mites are harmless.
