UCSOP Pharmacy Career
Exploration Challenge Winners
Chloe Anderson was selected as the winner of the undergraduate student Pharmacy Career Exploration Challenge. Chloe completed her undergraduate pre-pharmacy coursework at UC and is a member of the incoming UCSOP Class of 2026.
"Overall, I had prior knowledge that was supported by my experience as a community pharmacy technician. However, from learning in the Career Exploration Challenge, I think that I will be more open to learning about different types of pharmacy."
Taylor Martin of Riverside High School was selected as the winner of the high school student Pharmacy Career Exploration Challenge.
"Before this experience, I thought of a pharmacist as a frontline healthcare worker commonly seen dispensing medications in a drugstore. This job interested me, as I am extremely passionate about chemistry and female representation in STEM-based careers, but I never knew there were so many more possibilities after graduating from pharmacy school. After watching the provided videos and reading the slide shows, my eyes were opened to the many types of other pharmacy fields that are offered."
UCSOP P4 Students Lakesha Lock and Hannah Blackburn took a moment to de-stress in between patient care responsibilities while on their Palliative Care Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience with Dr. Leah Hall. Palliative Care focuses on the care of patients with a chronic life-limiting illness, where pharmacists can help improve patient symptoms and increase quality of life. Lakesha and Hannah are learning how to make recommendations to alleviate pain and other symptoms, while caring for the patient as a whole. Health care team members in Palliative Care can experience highly emotional situations while caring for patients, making self-care important to be an effective practitioner.
