Hello UCSOP Community!
With the start of the new calendar year and the spring semester here at UC, I wanted to let you know about some of the good things happening here at UCSOP. Our faculty and students continue to be very active in scholarship and research, with recent peer-reviewed journal articles being published by Dr. Fandy, Dr. Gahbauer and P4 student Ashley Lam, and Dr. Polsinelli and P2 student Harrison Yoo. Harrison was also recently selected for a prestigious inpatient pharmacy internship at the Cleveland Clinic, a notable honor.
In January, we recognized the students who made the Dean’s List for the fall semester. We recently published a new video of alumnus Trey Lockhart (Class of 2021) in which he tells the compelling story of his recovery from a devastating auto accident that nearly took his life. Also, many of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni continue to be heavily involved in dealing with the current COVID wave here in West Virginia, helping to administer tests, giving vaccines, and caring for patients who have contracted the virus.
We are looking forward to Pharmacists’ Day at the Legislature on February 11, where, along with representatives from the other pharmacy programs in the state, we’ll have the opportunity to speak directly with those involved in our state government to highlight the importance of pharmacists in impacting the health of our communities.
In addition, our students and faculty are gearing up for the new Script Your Future Medication Adherence challenge. This challenge is a competition designed to engage health profession students and faculty/staff across the nation by encouraging teams to develop creative initiatives to raise public awareness about the importance of medication adherence in improving health outcomes and reducing total healthcare costs. The UCSOP team has won awards in this competition seven times and we are looking forward to participating again this year.
Finally, we continue to receive applications from great students for this fall’s new P1 class. If you know someone interested in applying, please connect them with Ms. Stacie Geise at staciegeise@ucwv.edu.
