Liturgical Seasons

This is the LAST month of the liturgical season of Pentecost so the liturgical color is still green. We are excited to welcome Charlie Philip as a new member of UCV this coming Sunday, Nov. 5. At the end of the month, Nov. 26 is not only the last Sunday of the Pentecost season but it’s also the 4 th Sunday of the month when we have a potluck to celebrate November birthdays. At the end of the potluck, we hope as many as possible can stay for the “Hanging of the Greens” as we decorate the sanctuary for the season of Advent.

Just Peace

A couple of years ago, UCV agreed that we wanted to go thru the process of being able to be designated as a “Just Peace” church. The process is somewhat similar to the that of becoming “Open and Affirming.” There is a time of study and then the congregation votes to proclaim a public identity as a justice-doing, peace-seeking church. This may be the time to rekindle our determination to seek this designation. If you are interested in learning more about or want to participate in this process, talk to Deb Hudson.

Pastoral Care Ministry

Even though we don’t have a paid pastor at UCV, we have a number of lay pastors who want to be there for you as you travel down life’s sometimes difficult road. Please contact Sandy Selby at (502) 930-2199 to receive a confidential referral.

Our Peace Pole has been refreshed and relocated, it now sits in front of the United Church of the Valley building, a totem of peace and hope for all people. A place to come and sit and reflect on life.

Thanks Ruth, Sherian and everyone who made this happen.

Church Council 2024

Ecumenical & Outreach council position open

(see description below)

The Ecumenical and Outreach Committee shall:

  • Interface with the Interfaith Council of Murrieta and the Temecula Valley so as to facilitate communication with other faith organizations and local charities on community service events.
  • Inform the congregation of community service events to encourage participation.
  • Arrange UCV community service events

This is probably the most fun position on the council. You get to plan things that involve fellowship and often times food, what better combination. When you hear about an event in the area that might fit with what we do you simply share it with the council. You have the option of forming a committee to work with you if you would like. You must be a member of UCV, if you are interested and not yet a member, that can easily be remedied.

Emily's Space finished its first month of meetings! Our Kick-Off was an open house style with pronoun button making and our clothes swap. The rest of the month consisted of a local artist guest who spoke to the students about Hispanic Culture and did some art with them and our Halloween Party where we painted mini pumpkins, watched The Nightmare Before Christmas and had prizes for best costume and best painted pumpkin.

There has been a lot of support from the community who is purchasing things off the wish list. If you would like to help you can find the list at Emily"s Space Wish List . Its been amazing to see the students connect, laugh, have fun and find support in a safe space. A very special "thanks!" goes out to UCV for allowing us space.

Southern Ca. Conference News:

Southern Association held their Fall meeting in Oct. There was a speaker and business meeting. The budget for next year was passed. Donna was our representative to this meeting.

Last month some of our church family attended The Fall Fun For All. There was the weekend family camp. Donna was up for this. Then on Saturday there was a work camp. Donna participated in the activity. She helped clear out the Health Center so it can be renovated to make it handicap assessable. There was also Apple Pie Day. The Martinez family, Lee and Kaira, and Laurie were there for a relaxing day in the mountains and the great lunch. There was a fund raiser to help with the repairs needed to the roofs. Around $800 was raised. It is a start toward this big project.

Watch for information about Junior and Senior High winter camps that will be held in Jan. and/or Feb.
