2021-2022 Real Estate Society Officers
The Real Estate Center is pleased to announce the 2020-2021 Real Estate Society officers for academic year 2021-2022.

President: Matthew Pilavin, Matthew is a senior real estate major. Matthew served as the RE Society Secretary in 2020-2021. Matthew is a 2020 SIOR Scholarship recipient and has participated in case study competitions. Matt started his own business in Matt's Landscaping and House Maintenance. He worked with TruAmerica Multifamily and has an internship this summer with Kroll Bond Ratings Agency.

Vice President: Anthony Riccio, Anthony is a senior real estate major. Anthony recently served as the RE Society Treasurer and has worked for the Center for real estate doing market-based analysis research for real estate professors. Anthony received the 2020 SIOR Scholarship, is Argus trained and has also worked with Situs AMC valuation group as a co-op student working through the spring 2020 semester and summer. Anthony is currently interning with RMS Construction in Stamford Connecticut.

Treasurer: Michael DaCosta is a senior finance major and real estate minor. Michael participated in a real estate case study competition and is the Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer for Transit2College, LLC. According to Michael, this is a software to Universities to extend their tutoring services by creating an "Uber" like model that pairs students with tutors on demand 24/7 through a virtual learning environment". Michael is interning this summer with PNC in Dallas, Texas.

Secretary: Andrew Busick is a real estate major and Spanish minor and was a member of the Business Connections Learning Community. Andrew is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Michael also worked as a Resident Assistant with UConn Residential Life. Andrew is interning this summer with the Shelbourne Companies in Hartford Connecticut.

Outreach Members: Steven Chen, senior finance major and real estate minor. Steven is interning with HIMCO this summer. Francis Saint Mary, Francis is an Economics major and real estate minor. Francis is interning this summer with Wells Fargo in Boston, Massachusetts.
Steven and Francis will work with the executive board in promoting the Real Estate Society and providing necessary information to fellow students.
2021 UCRECC Golf Tournament

SAVE THE DATE: The University of Connecticut Real Estate Center Council golf tournament is planned for Tuesday, September 14, 2021. 

We look forward to once again gathering for this event at the Oxford Greens Golf Club and see our alumni, friends, and associates.

Details and registration below. Price point is not expected to change.
A team deposit of $200 will be due by August 15, 2021, with balance due before or by the tournament date.

Real Estate Society Spring 2021 Industry Visits Con't.
The RE Society spring 2021 semester wrapped up with the final group of visiting firms including, Kroll Bond Ratings Agency, Partners Group, Town of Colchester, U.S. State Department, Town of Colchester, and Walker and Dunlop.   
We are grateful to each of our alumnus and company representative that took the time to visit with our students. Each visit was insightful and informative.
On March 15, 2021, Kroll Bond Ratings Agency visited with RE Society students. Ravish Kamath, Senior Director CMBS took time out of his busy schedule to impart insight and wisdom to the real estate students.

Ravish shared his academic and career path from his UCONN MBA to Kroll Bond. Ravish explained the world of rating agency and the impact it has on commercial real estate properties. Ravish also shared about the great career option the CMBS world has to offer.
On March 22, 2021, Ron Lamontagne, Managing Director and Head of Private Real Estate Americas at Partners Group presented to the students about real estate platform at Partners.

Ron talked about his career path and his UCONN family legacy. He shared insight on the different investment vehicles and of direct primary and traditional secondary investors and what each of those entail. Ron also discussed the importance of strong collaboration with their partners and the Covid 19 impact on the Industrial sector. Ron is a member of the UCONN Real Estate Center Advisory Council.
on March 29, 2021, John Chaponis, Town of Colchester Tax Assessor visited with the real estate society students. John came in to share the growing need for Connecticut town tax assessors. John talked about the steady and stable career of this essential group.

John started out by sharing his career path and accounting degree and other certifications which lead to his appraiser title.

The Assessor’s Office plans, directs, organizes, and implements a continuing town-wide program of real and personal property assessment for the purpose of local taxation as prescribed by State statute.
The Assessor’s Office performs inspections of new and existing properties and properties under construction to determine their value. Additionally, every five years, the Assessor’s Office coordinates and oversees the town-wide revaluation of all taxable and non-taxable property to reflect current market trends. The Office supervises all contracted appraisal work for revaluation and superior court appeals.
The Assessor’s Office is responsible for administering both local and state exemption programs for Elderly, Blind, Disabled, Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Firefighters, and Handicapped. - Town of Colchester website.

On April 4, 2021, Professionals from The Bureau of Overseas Building Operations with the Department of State shared career opportunities and insight of the real estate work within the Department.

Visitors included Ellen Menown, Review appraiser; Paul Rau, Development Director and Portfolio Management; Taylor Smith Asset Management Division and Rachel Yates, Department Coordinator. Rachel shared the slide deck highlighting the department as a whole and its development and management of U.S. owned international assets.

Ellen Menown is the review appraiser and broker with certified license. Ellen deals with valuation of purchased sites including embassies and consulate compounds of both and new and old construction. Paul Rau conducts policy training and budget for 15,000 leases in 205 markets around the world that includes various kinds of real estate. Taylor Smith works with 200 portfolios of new and old properties and development. These properties are more than just real estate as manages the cross over to the political and security analysis of the asset.
on April 19, 2021, Victoria Reynolds, analyst with Walker and Dunlop visited with the RE Society students.

Victoria shared about her career path from UCONN to Walker and Dunlop and the value of her UBS valuation internship and adjustment to fulltime work. Victoria continues to work from home servicing loans through Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac multifamily housing, including student, senior and affordable housing.

Victoria a recent 2020 real estate undergrad shared about her transition to the analyst position through the Covid 19 pandemic and the necessary adjustment to be successful. She spoke of relying on her co-workers to learn as much as she can while working from home and meeting her colleagues through zoom meetings. Victoria is looking forward to soon going to the office with her colleagues and continued work on the multi-family side.

Rockland Trust, St. Katherine's Group, SitusAMC, Shelbourne Company, UBS and Wells Fargo.


The Center continues to offer a Resume Book of students looking for internships and fulltime placement in the real estate industry.

The Journal of Real Estate Literature ranked real estate programs based on the number of research articles accepted by the top three academic journals in the industry between 2016 and 2020. UConn had previously ranked Number 7.
