Remembering Cleveland L. Dennard – a guiding force in consolidating schools to create UDC
As students gather or rush to class across the quadrangle of the Van Ness Campus, signage reminds them of the significance of honoring Cleveland L. Dennard, a highly intelligent visionary who was recruited by President Lyndon B. Johnson’s administration to be the first president of the Washington Technical Institute. Dennard also worked with President Jimmy Carter and DC leaders to guide the merger of three schools to form the University of the District of Columbia. Read more

UDC faculty to be awarded 2024 Modern-Day Technology Leader at STEM Conference
For the fifth consecutive year, a UDC faculty member has been selected to receive a prestigious honor from BEYA. Dr. Samuel Waters, Associate Professor of Biology in the Division of Sciences and Mathematics at the College of Arts and Sciences, will be honored at the Black Engineer of the Year (BEYA) 2024 STEM Conference, taking place from February 15-17, 2024, in the category of 2024 Modern-Day Technology Leaders. The Modern-Day Technology Leader Award is a distinguished part of the BEYA STEM Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) Category. The BEYA STEM Community, over 10,000 strong, offers K-12 students, college students, corporate, government, military professionals, business, and industry employers with three days of learning, networking, celebrating excellence, and showcasing STEM career opportunities. Dr. Bethany Monea receives Honorable Mention for Outstanding Dissertation Award
Dr. Bethany Monea, UDC Assistant Professor of English: Community Writing, has received an Honorable Mention for the 2024 Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) James Berlin Memorial Outstanding Dissertation Awards for Composing Borderlands: The Lives and Literacies of First-Generation, Latinx Youth Transitioning to College Writing. The award honors a graduate whose dissertation improves the educational process in composition studies, or adds to the field's body of knowledge, through research or scholarly inquiry. The CCCC awards presentation will be held on Friday, April 5, during the 2024 CCCC Annual Convention in Spokane, Washington. Please visit CCCC website to learn more about the awards. SBPA partners with IRS for free VITA/TCE Tax Clinic
The School of Business and Public Administration is teaming up with the Internal Revenue Service to hold their annual free VITA/TCE Tax Clinic on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through April 13, 2024. The clinic will be held at UDC’s Van Ness Campus, 4200 Connecticut Avenue NW, Building 38, Room 305.

This year’s inductees were Leon Cunningham (UDC Class of '98), Kaneesha Hollis (UDC Class of '12), Tracey Oaks Jordan (UDC Class of '93, MA '07), Ronald Lewis (DCTC Class of '73, MA UDC '78) and C.
