Thank you for attending the 2021 Alumni Reunion
UDC Law hosted virtual reunions for sixteen celebrating classes. Over 174 alumni logged on to reconnect with their classmates. Each reunion class engaged in lively conversations highlighted by a special video message from Dean Renee McDonald Hutchins. The alumni who participated enjoyed their reunion immensely and made plans to gather again soon.
Retirement of Joe Libertelli '85
Longtime UDC Law Alumni Director Joe Libertelli ’85 will be retiring after two decades of service to the University of the District of Columbia. While Libertelli has served in many capacities at UDC Law including as Director of Career Services and communications coordinator, it is his advocacy, which contributed to the successful campaign for a DC Public Law School preventing the law school’s closure, that best exemplifies his commitment to and affinity for his alma mater.
The entire UDC Law community wishes Joe a happy retirement and the best of luck on his future endeavors.
In the interim, alumni are encouraged to e-mail for assistance.
Report on the UDC Law Clinical Program
As a pioneer of clinical legal education, the faculty and students at UDC Law continue to expand opportunities for students to engage in the practice of law. Adapting to better meet the needs of students enrolled in the evening program, the Clinical Program launched the “clinical semester,” a 10-credit clinic where evening students learn the substantive law and lawyering skills in the most realistic setting. This clinical experience not only contributes to a better understanding of the law learned in the classroom, but also gives UDC Law graduates a significant advantage in the workplace over those whose legal education lacks such practical experience.
AGs investigate police misconduct, Jonathan Smith ’84 weighs in
Jonathan Smith '84 was quoted in The Washington Post on current state attorney general investigations into police misconduct:
“The teams that have been put together by these AGs have included very hardcore civil rights lawyers who want to get to the facts,” said Smith. “They handle them in ways that are very impressive. I’m optimistic that we are not going to see these sweetheart investigations.”
Be sure to make your gift in support of UDC Law by December 31, 2021.
